I shall have to find out how many use it where dh is, but pretty sure its comparable numbers or more in europe using the remote system on frodays.

At his proper work they also use remote access, but i don't think so many peoe are using it at the same time.

no doubt when the company or firm is charging people for your time, they invest properly in the infrastructure to allow people to work properly at all hours of the day wherever they are, as you can't very well charge your client hundreds of pounds an hour for someone's time when that time consists of 8 hours of not being able to access any documents.

when the directors are trying to cut costs, you get a completely different I.T. solution!

    Extra mapping required £38

    Those are Devon rates though!

Our PP came through today with no special conditions or amendments.:)

Won't :j yet though. We have to weigh up whether we can afford what we've planned! :o:o:o

Wow, they really are. Ours were....more expensive, but very good.....and not far from you fc123.

I dunno how i feel about disruption. Its quite fun, and exciting. I wipsh i had less otherstuff going on. I think the right people make all the difference. The nice builders don't need me for much, which is good, but also i do not feel out of the loop. E.g. Todaythe structural engineer came and i followed round and l
Istened but could have not if i did not want to.

Generally, i think i am glad We are actioning now.

Yes, we've got proper systems, and all of our documents are in electronic form. The trouble is that we have 4,000 staff, all of whom will be trying to access the electronic records remotely - it doesn't work properly on a normal Friday when only 5-10% of people are WFH, the trials have shown that when 25% of people WFH you might as well be connecting through a 28.8kb modem. WFH = nothing done = having to cram all of that work into the time you are in the office.

By pure coincidence, that's the same number of staff as the FSA has! :)
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

In those circumstances, where WFH does not work, I'd simply have cut the Gordian Knot as a director. Everyone has to come in to work during the Olympics, but working hours are changed to 9-5.

That is 9PM to 5 AM.

Great for most ... I'd like that (as a driver).... but so many public transport systems are shut down at night, so getting home might be an issue.

Alternative is to have 4-day weeks for those that want them, flexible 12 hours between 6am to 8pm to achieve the full-time hours over four days.

I worked one job that had annualised hours. 1820 hours/year, which was like 35 hours/week with 4 weeks + bank holidays off. If you booked a day off, or it was a bank holiday, it was taken as 7 hours. The hours you worked were any time 7am-7pm 7 days/week and it was up to you to ensure all targets were met and all obligations met. I used to work Mon-Thu in the main.... go home Thu night to Sunday lunchtime, then turn up Sunday afternoons to run 3 hours of reports that were needed by 11am Monday morning. It worked well, but I was in a "loner job".

the tube starts running at about 5am so i could easily get home and i reckon it wouldn't be too difficult to make it over to canary wharf for 9pm every night. i might suggest this.

my building is open 24 hours, although between about 2-4 it's not possible to physically get out (or in for that matter) which i found out to my annoyance once.

So, I've just done something I've been putting off for weeks.
I've been asked to be a bridesmaid (first time), and wedding is on a budget, so we are all ordering dresses online from China (or somewhere). Needed to get measurements - which is why I have been putting off

Couldn't find the tape measure, so improvised with a ball of string and a tape measure (makes it sound like I needed the zoo keepers to help out :o), and the results were in. Went better than expected. I'm not suddenly supermodel proportions, but I'm ordering a size or 2 smaller than I thought (flattery will get them far), and other than having to ask for the dress to be made shorter I think one of the standard sizes will fit (checked measurements about 5 times as I was sure I'd gone wrong somewhere). Goodness knows how long it will take me to pluck up the courage to try it on when it arrives!

DD1 got her wedding dress in a closing down sale at 10% of the original price (before she'd been proposed to!) and all the bridesmaids dresses came from eBay.

The outfits needed a bit of tweaking from a lady in the village, but they cost next to nothing & looked just fine. :D

No piccies yet, as they still have to be approved by the management, who are on honeymoon.(in student accommodation! :rotfl:)

I read that as 10% off the first time - wow!

Our dresses aren't going to end up mega cheap (esp after adding on postage), but reasonable. And we get to pick our own style, whilst all having the same colour/ material which is nice (although I won't have anyone to blame if it looks hideous on!).

I stayed in student accom when I went to a wedding last year, it was great (well, it was Cambridge ;)).
