Olympics are on my doorstep as the shooting is around the corner. Flags everywhere, CPZ signs are up.

We'll watch the torch run past us Sat am before we set off down west.
I don't have tickets for anything but you can get an entry ticket to the Stratford stadium for £10 and so we'll do that I think and get the cable car from the 02.
I watched the cable cars from my studio going back and forth being tested every day for the past 2 months.
Rush hour they are faster and slower during the middle of the day for sightseeers.

Drop us a PM and I will have a thought, 6m frontage sounds fairly narrow for a pair of semis but will need to see how wide it is at the distance the hoses are set back from the street.

On a different note, may I ask for more property advice from the nice peeps please?

My friend has inherited her parents' house. It's a 1930s bungalow that's had a flat roofed single storey extension and a sort of loft conversion done, although not to modern standards - the stairs are very narrow and extremely steep and there's no door at the top IIRC. The whole thing is in a very poor state of repair, but it has a large garden behind it that widens out a lot, although the frontage onto the road is very narrow. She wants to sell it, but she thinks nobody will want to buy it unless they plan to pull the whole thing down and build probably two houses (she thinks maybe a pair of semis with a shared driveway) on the plot. She wonders if she would get a better price for it if she gets outline planning permission first. What sort of thing would you do if you owned it? Has anyone any useful advice about outline PP - is it worth getting, and how does one go about getting it?

Anyone who thinks they might have any useful ideas, let me know and I'll PM you the grid reference so you can see the actual property on Google maps or similar. In the meantime, here's some data to describe the plot:

Length of plot front to back: 53m
Width of plot at front: 6m
Width of plot at back: 27m
The left hand boundary goes more or less perpendicularly back from the road but the right hand boundary goes off in a straight line but at an angle to cause the widening out, IYSWIM.

    Thanks everyone.

I can't see the Olympics is going to make any difference to my commute in to central London but I guess we will see. Another employer where they think there stuff is so secret that it is not possible to work anywhere else. :(

Too many pages to catch up this evening, I should be asleep long ago. I will just share the latest story of my floor where the builder started laying it the wrong direction, relaid it the right way and ran out of planks having wasted so many, so I phoned the supplier this AM...and they have no more left

Good news is apparently they will be able to restock or be it not for 2 weeks.
    I think....

Company policy is that I can work from home three days a week during the Olympics. The trouble with that is that I need access to all the stuff that is in the office in order to do any work.

:( is it actual paperwork? can you not get your secretary to scan it in so that you get electronic copies of things? Surely you have proper remote access set up?

Lydia, re the plot. I agree with getting outline PP if possible. My relative's garden was worth 100k and was only large enough for a single house (in Herts).

In terms of the plot, I'd 1) approach the planning office and find out about planning for the area. There's no point on spending money on something that you aren't going to get, so check first that plans won't fall at first hurdle. Unlikely, but better to be safe than sorry. They'll also tell you what's permissible so your friend has a better idea of scope.

    2) Get someone to look over the plot. A good architect/architectural technician should be able to draft something appropriate. They will know how to max out the site without falling foul of planning and local conditions. It's clearly a difficult size to develop so it's much better to get advice.
