Ive never really given this any proper thought. Why dont we just eat the males of dairy herds. I bet it doesn't taste any different. I doubt i could tell the difference between meat from two different breeds especially if my mum had cooked/burned it to cinders.
Different sorts of cows are bred for different qualities/cuts. A dairy cow won't be producing the best meat. If you're going to feed an animal all the feed (and vet bills) it needs to get to the stage you can sell it for meat, there has to be a profit in it. And there's no profit in the meat that type of cow produces.

Well it tastes like beef but....

Yes there re didferences. Marbling, and muscle mass mainly.

If you look at pictures of berf cattle and dairy cattle their put together is different......but there are dual purpose breeds, they are a compromuse. We have bred milk and meat producers because for their market they are the most productive. Personally, from my previous work in this sort of area, i find much modetn milk production far less humane than meat production.

Don't really want to offend the vegetarians here by going into too much detail:o

Yes there are differences....,like...like you or i chewy might choose a meal pn would not...because we find a difference. But also the economics of our want is need society puts access to unhea
Thy amounts of unethically oroduced meat above access to healthy anount of more expensive but better produced meat.

Its complex, people interested in animal production ethics don't 'meet' in agreement so how can any one else i suppose.

I'd be happy to eat a baby bull as soon as it is born to save on the feed, they can send them here rather than shooting them if they like.

Yep, infact...uncrated veal is imo not that inethical. The calf certainly suffers less, though the poor cow still does a bit. Much less cruel than being kept with in earshot of her stolen baby for a while. :o and rhe calf is out of its misery...but cost of transporting baby baby calves in fuel and slaughter and butchey is probably relevant (nit sure what current prices are but have a feeling cattle have had a rally in price recently). Raising the calves makes more meat for the buck. Crated (white) veal gave all veal an inethical reputation, but ethically i find pink veal (u crated, allowed to move while it grows on a bit) one of the most acceptable forms of meat.

I find tha human impact via selective breeding...plants, farm animals, pets, one of the most fascinating things, it explains so much of what is genius, talented snd resourceful about us and what is loathsome.

And so you could .... there are 90,000 shot each year.

The programme I was watching was where some bloke called Jimmy (one of Jamie Oliver's mates), who has telly programs and does organic meat rearing went to Tesco to ask if he could produce a free-range/organic product that rivalled one of their top sellers. He spotted meatballs and decided to try to make meatballs. So he picked those dead calves - this is called veal and veal has a bad name based on practices in the 1980s when they were treated badly. But UK Rose Veal is always grown outdoors and happy. European veal doesn't have the same standards. So he tried to make the meatballs out of veal, but Tesco said people wouldn't like it, especially as they were stuffed full of stuff like oregano. So then he tried a veal/pork mix; they weren't overkeen on those too based on a variety of reasons (including price). He invited farmers to supply veal and they said it's too dangerous to produce veal for months, on the back of a Tesco contract, that might turn out to be Tesco looking good on the telly for a programme, then running the product for 6 months and dropping it, when it takes them 8 months to get a veal up to the point where it could be slaughtered.

We were talking languages a few nights back and # happened to see this today which might be worth a try.

Sue we are very near UofH so if you are visiting please drop in for a coffee. I also have a colleague who went there (admittedly a few years ago now who I am sure would be happy to advise.

OOOOOH! A lovely new thread :D

I’m going to start with a question; Is the debate house prices board just for house prices, or for the economy as a whole?

Going to be kickstarting a new thread and need to know where to put it :)

I’ve used both Byki and Transparent to kickstart about six languages (mainly work-based). The general idea on this is the basis of speaking basic elements of a language opens doors in business.
