Fascinating programme just started on BBC4 - about the A303 road. Looking at history along the route.

That reminds me that I ought to make a documentary about my collection of fluff and all the history that it involves. My old dressing gown was absolutely riveting.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?

Thanks pn,i will find this interesting too.

I feel like the 303 is an old friend and lots of the history along it is things i particularly love. I looked at a farm just off the bypass with historical interest, and while we didn't like the house the history and one feature in particular made it really, really tempting.

Its incredible really. Even since we move i will always opt for the 303 route, pretty impressive land marks too.

    Oh shush you ... heathen.

It's interesting. They've covered the murder of Æthelwald, the Weyhill Fair - and now he's standing in a field talking about Wiltshire's barrows and it being a prehistoric graveyard. Neolithic stuff.

I did kind of think you might be interested in it LIR... as it's known ground, which is mostly why I mentioned it.

We have a metal detector now and something they won't cover might have happened just over the road. :D

I think the programme is right, stone henge is better from the road and almost inevitable traffic slowdown than from the extortionate closer roped off view.

I 'll do chooks while they are there.

We (mum and I) went to Stonehenge on our last mini-break... Somehow timed it for that nice sunny week at the end of May. Enjoyed looking round, but it was v pricey for what if is. Also, whilst queueing up to pay we were asked along the lines of 'are you foreign'. Can't remember exact phrasing, but I thought it quite rude. It was only to try to flog us a visitors pass, but I thought
there were better ways of opening the conversation.
