What to do for the best ended up with a Smoky sofa???

hello everyone,

I am hoping that someone can advise on what to do for the best...

we bought a leather suite from ebay a sofa and chair, they charged for delivery and delivered it last night around 9pm.

we had a quick look at the sofa and chair, I said it stunk of perfume or something but it all seemed ok and the guy left.

I said to my other half is it leather then.. lol as I have never owed a leather suite before - its not! but I can't complain about that I don't think as although the title said leather sofa, under material it does say faux leather, so stupid me for not reading properly

anyway i got up this morning came downstairs and the whole lounge stinks of smoke, I mean really smells of it.....
I have also noticed that it has biro marks on the arm of the sofa, paint splatters over both chair and sofa.

None of these things were stated on the listing. It literally said leather suite, measurements and stated selling on behalf of brother.

what can I do????

Am I entitled to a refund?

he isn't going to want to come back and collect is he?

but I can't sell it as who the hell wants a sofa stinking of smoke and a faint smell of whatever airfreshener they used to mask the smell.

oh god its awful. and the worst part is we put our sofa on freecycle and that has been collected now.

I am so disappointed the sofa looked fab and a great size.

not sure if it makes a difference or not was £65 in total and was paid via paypal.

what can we do????
I need to start saving so I plan to save £2 a week to start with:beer:

Was this a business or a private seller? I think basically from a private seller you are probably stuck as the costs of returning it even if a dispute goes in your favour would be too high.

However the first thing is always to contact seller and ask about a refund / return.

You had the chance to inspect it fully and then accepted it. If its a private seller (sounds like it from the condition) then you're stuck with it unless the seller is a very nice and understanding person!

it just means they have a ME page, you should be able to click on it and it just has rubbish stuff that people care to share.

Please don't flame me for this, I know it is slightly off topic, however if you find you really are stuck with this sofa and you're happy with it otherwise, try sprinkling baking soda over it tonight and hoover it up tomorrow. Bicarbonate soda/baking soda is really good for absorbing smoke smells.

If you put a cup/pot of it in your living room tonight it might help remove the stench from in there too.

Someone I know also had a child who drew all over their leather sofa with biro and they managed to remove it by spraying some hairspray on a cloth and gently rubbing it off, gently mind you! Then she dabbed it with water to get the hairspray off.

Not sure about the paint spatters though.

It's the same as bicarbonate of soda. Don't think it's the same as baking powder.

If you notice a reduction in the smell after one application it's worth repeating and there are other remedies that might help too.

it might be worth starting a thread in the old style moneysaving board as they tend to have loads of effective and economical ways of doing things like this without resorting to costly chemicals. I bet they'd know how to get rid of the paint spatters too.

What I would say with the hairspray is do a small patch test first and don't rub too hard! :)

Actually, they didn't, they had it delivered.
