Just keep touching a metal radiator every 15 minutes or so, while handling the components.

The motherboard you have appears to have an LGA 1155 CPU socket - the CPUs for these sockets do not have pins, they have metal contact pads. However the CPU socket has pins, so you need to be sure that you have put the CPU in the right way (check notches) before pressing the lever down to lock the CPU into place.

Very briefly how I would swap the motherboard:
    1) Disconnect the PSU completely, and remove it from the case - this should give you more room to work in.

    2) Disconnect front panel connectors (HDD lights, power button, etc) noting which way they went in (ie: white to the top, red to the right).

    3) Unscrew about 6 screws which should release the motherboard. Place motherboard on an antistatic bag.

    4) Remove RAM noting the slots they were taken from and place on an antistatic bag.

    5) Remove CPU heatsink and fan. Clean any CPU paste with pure alcohol if possible, or methylated spirits.

    6) Lift CPU socket lever and remove CPU from socket and place this on an antistatic bag.

    7) Check the motherboard for any jumpers, noting the positions they are in, ie: jumper header JP1 has connected pins 1-2, etc.

Finally repeat the above in reverse order.

A bit late on this but please understand that all electrical and electronic devices have hidden smoke canisters, once the smoke escapes from them the device will no longer work.
As to why the smoke escapes, well that is another story!!

Indeed, and do be aware that all printers are female, and photocopiers have an Important Document Sensor and Important Person Sensor in them that initiate a paper jam if either are triggered

Before you start dismantling and as you do each step make notes and take photos.

Another trick is to get a partitioned tray and put any small parts(eg: screws) for each step in different slot. that way you get the right bits(type and number) for each step putting it back together.

Nothing worse than having a bit left at the end and wondering where it goes.
