Help, pc smoking and now off.

I have an Ausus pc i5, noticed smoke coming out of it and now it does not switch on, any help most appreciated. The motherboard says PBP67, what ever that means.

You should tell it to go outside if it wants to smoke :)

    (Sorry, couldn't resist!)

Whatever you do, don't turn it back on until you've found out what's actually wrong with the PC. Turning it on could cause further damage to vital components such as your harddrive.

I would disconnect the PSU from everything in the PC, noting what's connected to where. There are usually 4 screws at the back of the computer case, holding the PSU - undo these, then remove the PSU.

With the PSU remove, you can focus on testing it.

The smoke was coming from the board itself and not the power supply. I have disconnected the Hard Drive and thank God it is still working. I will check the area and see if i can spot something.

Even if it wasn't, you've got backups, haven't you....?

If the smoke came from the motherboard, then it could a number of things. It's quite likely that it's time for a new motherboard, and probably even a new processor and perhaps RAM. Or you might just get lucky, and the CPU and RAM will work in a new motherboard.

You might be able to get a cheap secondhand motherboard on eBay. Failing that, you might be able to repair the motherboard if you're decent with a soldering iron.

can't back up every thing but the Hard drive is intact.
It does not appear to be a PSU fault otherwise it will not fry the motherboard, having said that there are no marks any where but the smell of something 'burnt' is still there. will check ebay for parts.
