I thought the £500/month thing was only for the 6% interest?
Ie, you get 0% interest if you don't fund with at least £500/month.0 -
I have a HSBC current account into which I have not paid anything for the past 3 years. It has a balance of just £10 and it is still not closed. So, I do not think they have this £500/month criterion.Mortgage: @ Feb. 2007: £133,200; Apr. 2011: £24,373; May 2011: £175,999; Jun 2013: ~£97K; Mar. 2014 £392,212.73; Dec. 2015: £327,051.77; Mar. 2016: ~£480K; Mar. 2017 £444,445.74

Given it's on their website, I think they do.

Just click on the Check the Full Details link on the right handside and it says.
It says you may have your account closed if you don't put money in, doesn't say you definately will.0 -
So, your online account has no activity for two years. You go online and suddenly request a big transfer. Bank wants to check you are who you say you are.
I agree you should have been able to call them or do some other kind of check, but this seems quite responsible that they don't want to just pay away £10,000 in case it is a fraud and someone has got hold of your login details.Smile
, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.0 -

But it's boll0cks tho,
that 'requirement' is a lie/false they just want the money.

You have to pay £500 a month in unless you're under 24 unless, then that requirement is waived.HSBC have different current accounts. Not all of them do have the £500/month requirement. But this does not make it "pointless" or "the biggest lie ever" that some accounts do have that requirement.
Or at least it was last time I checked.
http://www.hsbc.co.uk/1/2/current-accounts/bank-account/open-bank-account- Will you be paying at least £500 per month into this account?
(Should you fail to make the £500 monthly payment required to maintain your account, we will either change it to a Current Account or give you notice that we will be closing your account. If you are under the age of 24, the qualification criteria will not apply).
0 - Will you be paying at least £500 per month into this account?

How is it a lie? I don't understand how it is lying? They have said you have to credit the account with £500 a month or have the account at risk of closure. And there have been many people on this forum who have had their HSBC accounts closed because of it. Then there are people who don't have it closed. Very confused as to how, what HSBC have said, is a lie?
I think if you think HSBC are pathetic for telling you that you risk having the account closed if you do not credit it with £500 a month then you are an idiot.0 -
New HSBC bank accounts have a £500 minimum funding requirement a month. I don't see the problem, I fund it with £550 so that I can fund two regular savers one at first direct and the other at hsbc.
They have a current account which does not require funding but you're not eligible for the regular saver with that account apparently so had to open up this account.
Really don't see what the problem is if you want the two regular savers.0 -

ahhh so it 'begins'
so you think im an idiot? because i simply don't fund the account 500 EVERY MONTH and yet my account is fine... so it raises the question is this 'requirement' true? because it most certainly isn't
so yea im an 'idiot' for believing in something that isn't necessarily true
yah? that make sense? or to much for ya? :rotfl:You might not be able to use a HSBC branch in another country but I can and do..
