So was your statementApologise for what? My advice was correct?!?
Orange has done nothing wrong. This would have happened with any mobile network, so a little harsh to blame Orange for this. It is your error.
It all was the OP's fault.
There is no anything to apologise for.

They would have sent you a final invoice afterwards. It's up to you to either pay it or not.... So I stand by my comments also.
But the main thrust of the OPs complaint is that they didn't do this! If OP had been sent a final invoice they would have paid it.
If Orange can't tell them what the "debt" for or even be consistent about what the appropriate amount is, how can you be so confident that their systems are infallible?
My understanding is that if a bill is disputed they are not allowed register a default on your credit file. You need to contact the credit agencies and let them know this bill is in dispute. Then tell Orange they have to justify the bill. If they can't explain it, then it may well be their mistake. If you want to push it, you can just tell them to take you to court for the disputed amount.
If they can't justify it, then you win the case.
Of course, you may feel it isn't worth the hassle and just pay up. Understandably most people will just pay up, and the phone company gets the extra income from these spurious "debts"0 -
Its been a while, but finally this is now over.... It took a couple of months to show but the Mrs' credit file is updated.. No defaults and no debt showing.
Im counting down now with 6 months to go before I can say goodbye to these cowboys for good.0
