Sainsbury's mix and match 2 for £5 offers

I have just bought some food there and included in it 2 items from the above. I checked that both were from the 2 for £5 and not from the 3 for £10. However it was not clear that both had to be from the same compartment within the chilled meat/fish area.
I had taken pork steaks and fishcakes. The mix and match labels were virtually identical but I got no discount at the till so claimed a refund on the fishcakes.

If that is how they want to do it, then the labelling needs to be clearer.

Alternatively shop in a cheaper supermarket.

Its staggering to me how much more Sainsburys is overall.

But the quality of food is better. Doesn't justify the expense but given a choice between same deal from sainsburys or same deal from tescos (probably less weight/additional charges knowing them ;) ) I'd choose the sainsburys deal every time.

    Agree 100%.

    Aldi and Lidl are brilliant.

Unfortunately not everone has a Lidl, Aldi or even Morrisons nearby. Sainsbury's is the least expensive here out of Tesco, Waitrose & Sainsbury's and much better quality than Tesco.

They've applied for planning permission for an Aldi, hopefully they will get it.

I don't have an Aldi either. There is a Lidl and an Asda too but the Asda is cramped and has huge queues for the self service tills and virtually no traditional tills. The Lidl doesn't inspire me either. I would use Morrison's but don't have one close enough. I don't have a car and Sainsbury's is 5 mins away.

I suppose it's personal choice as to whether you want to waste money on food when you can buy it much cheaper elsewhere. Personally, it sticks in my throat to pay Sainsburys prices when stuff is available at Lidl or ALDI for much less. Fruit and veg and fresh meat are just as good as anywhere else, quite often better, and my Lidl has a fantastic bakery instore, the speciality breads are really good.

If you've never been inspired enough to visit Lidl, why don't you give it a chance, once won't hurt you, if you don't like it you can go back to paying over the odds at Sainsburys !

You misunderstood slightly. I have been to Lidl but my first impression was of things like loo rolls, drinks cans/bottles, cans of baked beans sold in multipacks. Did not see a bakery. Seemed more suited to someone buying in bulk for a large family but not for someone buying for 1-2 people.

Give it another chance - try using it for your main shop / storecupboard and then use Sainsbos sparingly? You are right, they sell a lot of processed foods but I find the quality of the fruit and veg to be much better than the big 4 supermarkets.

I was under the impression that you could mix and match the items as long as they were of the same offer eg 2 for £5.

well according to mysupermarket the TTD fishcakes are part of the 3 for £6(previously were part of the 2 for £5)

What were the pork steaks ? breaded or just plain pork steaks ? as the only pork steaks i can see are part of the 3 for £5 deal(checked mysupermarket).

Could be different deals on at Sainsburys Locals though.

Only thing i can tink of is that the 2 items had the old offer stickers on.

You dont have to buy the same items that are part of the same offer.
