Confused PC - Hijack This log

Do you have the windows7 disc, if not, does the machine have the facility to create one?
Does it have a factory restore partition
Make and model of machine?
What and how much data do you need to backup?
How far did the backup get, what type of backup was it, system image?
Assuming this isn't a hard disk hardware problem, A boot cd might be the best way of getting data off, as it will rule out any windows problems or infections.

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:
(if the problematic machine cannot access the internet, download the file on your other machine and copy over using a USB memory stick)
Link
After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:- Double click DDS to run it.
- When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
- DDS.txt
- Attach.txt
Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)
Avast doesnt like it I guess I'd better turn it off although it seems to suggest I can proceed with caution? Unfortunately a box still comes up with NSIS Error launching installer?0 -

Ive got a Windows 7 disk for this PC but dont know if it has a factory restore partition?
Make and model: Arbico
Intel (R) Core (TM) i5-2500 CPU @ 3.30Ghz 4.00Ram, 64 Bit operating system
I don't know how far it backed up as was away from the desk at the time of failure?
Can't be certain what type of back-up, don't think it was a system image though - I recall there were two options with system image being the second?
I'll now take a look at the links you have given - thank you.0 -
If you have the W7 disc, you don't need a factory restore partition.
Concentrate on getting the data backed up, either from inside windows (copy and paste), and do a system image and W7 recovery bootcd if it will let you, or using the boot cd's.
Then if all else fails, reinstall windows, assuming it's not hardware (ram, disk etc), which is a possibilty - reseller pc's tend to be more troublesome than ones from big manufacturers.!!

Yes I thought it would be OK but I'll need to disable Avast as it seems to stop the program from running.
Ive just tried doing a Antispyware scan and it came up with 42 threats (yesterday it came up with just 23??) but when I went to remove them, the PC froze again followed but the blue screen with same msg and lots of diffeent "Stop" codes (Too long and numerous to list down).
Ive rebooted once again and back on line but I think I'm going to have to go and lie down shortly and try to recover myself before attempting further recovery steps for this PC.
in the meantime, thanks to you all for the help and advice given so far! :beer:0 -

I've disabled Avast and downloaded the DDS software but I'm not able to get anything when I click on it to run it just flashes a box up for a split second and that's it? I notice it's shown as a 'screensaver' on the folder info and also somewhere it says "Does Diddly Squat" is that something to do with this virus Ive got, can it identify attempts at downloading preventative software so that they don't work and then add funny wordings to the folder/files? I really must get some sleep before I crash! :eek:0 -
Yes indeed, I re-ran it again and this time successfully removed the 42 threats but hasnt helped with this main problem sadly.0 -
It wont do - they're totally unrelated.0
