Still desperately trying to find a way out of this wihout rebooting in case I lose any chance of retrieving lost files, all blank screens have disappeared but got a box with flwg info:
Microsoft 2010: explorer.exe application error
The instruction of ox 00000007662C3EE rerenced memory at ox000000000BE21028.
The required data was not placed into memory because I/O error status of ox000000e.
Click OK to terminate the program.
This sounds very drastic but I don't think there's any other option?0 -

Thanks, well it does up to a point but I hvnt had any ctc suggesting software to resolve problems? The fact that nothing is available at all suggests something very bad has affected my computer but have I truly lost everything in the process of trying to ave everything? Would a reboot (manual) be a sensible move?0 -
If it's what I suspect, you haven't lost anything, it's been hidden by the virus. There are specific steps you need to take in order to fix it successfully.
First thing is to establish whether the BSOD KERNEL error and this are linked. How do I add a signature?0 -

OK thanks, how do I do this? I suspect it's a safe bet they are linked though.
I've rebooted (pressing reset and on/off button a couple of times) and eventually after windows repairing or whatever, it's come back to me with icons and everything (i hope).
Clearly something is very amiss (Not just my imagination) i.e. a virus as you suggest Figment so I'll now have a look at the earlier suggestions rather than attempting another back-up.0 -
Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:
(if the problematic machine cannot access the internet, download the file on your other machine and copy over using a USB memory stick)
Link
After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:- Double click DDS to run it.
- When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
- DDS.txt
- Attach.txt
Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)How do I add a signature?0 -
I'd open a cmd prompt (run as admin) and do a Chkdsk /f /r on the hdd to be safe, then once done (may take ome time) then run malwarebytes once it's rebooted

Not sure how to do this? I can get the cmd prompt up but that's as far as I can go0
