Tesco not allowing 1p items to be sold

Most people check on the price scanners that are located in most Tesco Stores - if there is no scanner it is difficult as some of the items people list here for 1p come up full price for others0

Cow & Gate sunday lunch was discontinued £1.45 Scanned £1.69!!!
Tesco Value 2 pack bibs 1p
and got the Badedas bath oil 1p thanks OP and MM;)
Barcode 87211 00027
Take the jar and reciept to customer services and enjoy double the difference back! 48p! better than nothing! (but not as good as £1.69, how I miss it!)I'm getting older, and lifes getting harder!:mad:0 -

Thornton Heath had Frank Cooper's cranberry sauce & redcurrent jelly for 1p yesterday. Expire july/aug 2007 though. Had plenty left, I only took 10 jars. Their one scanner wasn't working but luckily the tills weren't too busy so I got the lad to check the price first.
Interestingly, a girl came to relieve the lad as he was serving me and as she was watching the process she commented that they weren't allowed to sell 1p items. Fortunately he ignored her and a supervisor wasn't called.
good luck!0 -
I too have been been dismayed in a couple of stores this week. Staff have been loading the metal cages up with health and beauty stock (stuff I knew had been discontinued, a lot of 1p stuff). I asked whether I could take some soap - and was rudely told no as it would scan at 1p and that they 'have' to skip it when this happens! I got into an argument after christmas with this attitude, it wouldn't be so bad if staff were actually taking it, but the staff I spoke to this time were angry that they were not allowed it either!
I have also been stopped at the checkout before with supervisor called and had a couple of items removed (just cranberry sauce). It makes a farce of Tescos 'green' promises..

I don't believe the fact they are not allowed to sell 1p items, why do they print shelf labels stating 1p. If they don't want to sell the items they should take them off the shelf instead pulling it out of peoples trollys ! Tesco are a joke. BRING BACK THE DISCUSSION THREAD !0 -
This from a company whose logo is what ????????????
Every little helps
They would rather bin perfectly good, saleable and useable items than donate them to charity, good causes or simply help their loyal shoppers.0 -
There's no profit in selling something for 1p when you can force shoppers to go buy the same thing for more. The truth is "Every penny counts" applies to Tesco's profit margin, not your pocket.
I don't see the problem with Tesco donating stuff to charity (possibly via some third party so they're not legally liable if somebody eats out of date moisturiser or something). I guess there must be a reason or they'd do it to improve their image.
Edit: A bit early in the morning for me or I'd have realised it's "Every little helps", not "Every penny counts".Reading this signature is a waste of time0 -
a friend works for a local tesco, and stuff that SHOULD go in the bin/skip goes to the staff room first for the staff to take, or there is a price on each item, and you put the money in a "honest jar" for a local charity (nothing is more then 50p)
he brought us some cakes once, they had a price on of £4.99, but a "staff" price of 30p!! they where out of date by 1 day.0
