DLA indefinitely?

Sorry I have rabbited on there, I am just asking 2 questions about DLA.

How long before they give you DLA indefinitely?
Do we know anything about PIP - the one replacing DLA?

Hello

First of all, I have received DLA since my first operation on this matter when I had to leave work for the operation and the Job centre to go on DLA as it would help. I had a medical and was put on DLA

2 Years later I had to renew the application form, now things are getting worse and I am in need of aid more and more to get around. Anyway its time again to renew the application to receive DLA. Is it down to the consultant?

You see, the consultants are trying to fix me with "masking tape" when they should be "welding me solid", however they believe that one of the "masking tape" ideas might work.

I am due for 3 more operations to fix me, before "welding", which would mean needing aid all the time. 2 on my left, and 1 more on my right. Thats not including exploratory operations to see why pain levels are so high - they may of messed up the last operation I think.

So, how long before they say you can get it indefinitely?

also I don't think we know much about the new system coming into place, PIP or something? How does this work?

You see, once they "weld" my ankles they are going to try and "tape" my knees and if they can't fix, "weld" them also.

If I sit in a "wrong" position my spin "crushes" my spinal cord, resulting in my not being about to get up without help or worse unable to use my legs completely - like paralysed until a few minutes after laying down.

I have all the copies of the paperwork stating all of this, but they keep giving me 2 years.

Indefinate awards mean nothing nowadays, no point worrying about that. Everyone will be reassessed under PIP, lifetime, indefinate, 3 years, or 1 year awards - everyone of working age.

I head it can take up to 2016, by then I could of had another claim for DLA? or would it automatically be PIP?

Do we know anything about PIP yet?

There's no time span before they'll give an indefinite award, it's for people who won't improve or reasonably get any worse.

My son was 8 when he received his indefinite award - HRC and HRM. He could be assessed at any time. Once he is 16, though, he will have to be reassessed, and this will be under PIP criteria. He was 14 last month and PIP starts next year. Reassessment will be at 16 without a doubt because he will no longer qualify as a child and would have to meet different criteria even if DLA was to remain.

If you have another assessment due after early 2013, you will be assessed under PIP criteria, not DLA criteria.

i started claiminmg DLA in 1996 and was given an indefinate award. some people never get an indefinate award, even though they remain eligable to DLA.
as has already been said ... an indefinate award doesnt mean that you wont be reassessed at some point, although I never have been.
now were going to be changing to PIP, the indefinate award means less than it ever did!
bring on the funn and games!
  • I was awarded DLA originally in 2009 and then earlier this year it was cut back but awarded indefinitely. From next year EVERYONE has to go for an assessment to continue receiving their benefit. Its not one you can really answer and the "how long is a piece of string" comes into play here I guess!

There has been mention of 5 or 10 year awards for PIP, but I wouldn't worry about it. I'm on indefinate but it means diddly squat. Better wait until things are fully in force so the guidelines are clearer.

Im also on indefinite award. I wont get better. Have read somewhere that the criteria for PIP is stricter, but is being designed so people with unseen problems are more likely to be accepted (MH issues or people with onoff conditions). Thats a contradiction in itself!! We wont know till its introduced xx
