You need to keep using aircon every few weeks - even in winter - or the joints dry out

Not an issue in my car then, especially in the summer.. poor thing gets used daily!!

Now now, don't try to twist what I said, the very reason I hate air con is because of the risks it poses. I was going to put in my earlier post that it was only used by others not me.

I think it should be an option to have it removed if fitted as standard not the otherway round.

The weight factor alone puts me off though.

Anyway, not kwik crap op, ;);)

It must be a sad, and miserable world where people are worried about the whole 9.5kg an airconditioning system weighs, even with the wiring.

Do you really dislike it that vehemently, or do you like being contrary? Do you avoid all airconditioned buildings because of the "risk" that they pose? I can tell you as somebody who's studied a lot of microbiology that an airconditioning system poses pretty little risk compared to day-to-day activity...I hope you never pay in cash, nor use a public toilet.

How much do you think a compressor and some alloy piping weighs lol? I can give you plenty of examples of people with "track" cars who have stripped the A/C system and been thoroughly disappointed with the mass they have shed.

    Regards,
    Andy

Really, I hate air con but had a vectra with it fitted. When I sold it eight years later the system still worked perfectly inspite of being used no more than 3 or 4 times. ;)

And OP, I doubt for a minute you actually mean " a new car" :rotfl::rotfl:

Don't go to kwik carap, you will find the aircon failed because it needs new shocks and springs :o:o

    Weirdo.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I have no issue will air con in building so long as I am not paying the running costs or maintaining it, but as an ex Plant Manager with responsibility for maintaining air con and water cooling systems I do know the difficulty in keeping these bacteria free.
And yes, I am 1 of those who have stripped out cars for tracking and it's not just weight which I can assure you will be more than 10kg

It's also the amount of power they consume or the increase in fuel consumption depending on your perspective.

My choice for my reasons :p
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Again, as somebody who works on automotive aircondition systems, I disagree about the mass, but we'll have to agree to disagree there. I see no other potential reason to remove it from the vehicle except reducing mass, maybe you can elaborate?

Up to you what you do, but it sounds to me more you are just being contrary. I go back to my original point, how many pathogenic organisms will colonise on a steering wheel, gearstick or door handle? Also you forget it's perfectly plausible for bacteria to colonise a normal heating and ventilation system in a car, without air-conditioning.

I love my air con, or rather loved my air con. It stopped working took it for re gas and the radiator or condensor part of it has got a hole in - have been told it will be over £300 to repair and then that might only be the start of it and once fixed could then find other problems, garage has recommended not bothering with it.
I really miss it, especially in this weather, but am reluctant to spen 300 with no guarantee of repair, has anyone successfully and not to expensively replaced this part?

I have, but only because the compressor on my car is also used on the Skyline, so I got the compressor for free off a bloke who was stripping it off to save weight :)

Had to get it professionally fitted, but I think it only ended up costing me £150 for the entire job.

How do you run your air-con in winter? In my car the minimum setting for the temp control is 12deg, so if the exterior temperature is lower than that, the air-con doesn't need to operate to lower the temperature in the cabin, it will just use fresh air.
