Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Thursday 24th May 2012 . This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Morning Lovelies,
Up and at em to beat the heat....
Dosen't look like it's going to be as hot as y'day TG.
Today - Kids to school, Nip to Reading to collect ironing from big sis, then home to do the ones here

.
Have lovely days x

Morning BB and all to follow.
Does not look like it will be quite as hot here today either, we went to the beach after dinner last night with the dog and the kites, the dog thinks its her job to attack the kites as they swoop down, :rotfl: she spend a lovely hour running round the beach barking at the 'big birds'
Did a wash last night after work, which is still on the line, I love being able to leave a wash out, will do another tonight.
Off to work today, dinner tonight is scampi and chips for OH, veggie and chips for dd, and something low carb for me, possibly an omelette.
Ok better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning
Set to be hotter here today than yesterday, no fog this morning so windows and doors wide open.
Had a lovely BBQ last night, some HM burgers, chicken (didn't have a lot so cut it small and marinated and shoved on skewers some savoury rice and the last of the salad bits. Was lovely.
Need to go in search of some fly curtains for the doors today, whilst the kittens think its a game invented just for them, I'm not keen on them eating so many of these big flies. Of course they don't see the difference in the wasps either and two got stung yesterday.
Wm on, need to tidy the fridge, make a shopping list and get DD2s birthday cake sorted for the weekend - ice cream bomb cake - nice and easy and great for this weather.
Might get the nets down too, they're old and a bit off coloured so the sunlight sould brighten them.

Morning :hello:
I have always blamed Alf from Home & Away for upspeak - he's the first person I heard talking like that - then I blamed American Pie for making it popular, "one time, at band camp............" :rotfl:
The garden's looking much better, I've got a couple of unused large kitchen bins so I've put the compost into those, it's looks much nicer than bright purple bags dotted aroundI've sorted the tools so we can use them without having to spend 20 mins digging through the shed looking for them first, lol. I closely examined each and every pot, threw out any with the slightest crack then stacked them according to size.
I thought we were going to lose Daisy hen last night, she was staggering around (backwards, she couldn't walk forwards at all) and dragging her wings on the floor for balance. We checked to see if she was egg-bound and couldn't feel a thing, so did all the other usual things but nothing worked. Eventually we put her into a warm bath and after a few minutes she laid a tiny, thin-shelled egg in the water and was immediately fine. She always lays large strong eggs, I can't believe that little thing caused all the fuss. I kept her in the house overnight just in case but she's fine and I'm about to let her back out into the garden.
It's cooler here today, the house feels really stuffy though, so I've opened all the windows. Not sure what I'm doing today, I'll probably go out into the garden to do a bit of weeding at some point. I'll be looking at job sites, but I wonder why I bother most days because there's nothing about.Bulletproof0 -
Morning all, overcast here but still quite warm, so nice walk for me and Jack. Off to school in a mo- hope today is less hectic!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs to all in need, glad Daisy hen is OK Tru. Have a good day all.:)£180.00 in 'sistercas'fund

Morning everyone
Love and hugs to those that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
Coudy here this morning, hopefully sun will put in an appearance later. DH up and off to work stupid early.
Dinner last night was roast chicken, mash, cauli/brocc cheese, carrots and gravy - typical I decide to cook a big meal on the hottest day of the year so far! Not sure what we will be having tonight, need to organise that this morning. Aunt's funeral is this afternoon, so am intending to go to that, but other Aunt who we expected to pass away first is now really not good so not sure if I'm going to the funeral or needed to help out with care for the other Aunt - always seems that everything happens at once!
Have a few jobs to do this morning, will be making use of the good weather - so will put another load of washing on the line shortly. Think I will change our bed too, as love having the sheets line dried! Will be doing a menu plan and shopping list too - so I can be better organised next week. Will be trying shopping at 2 different shops on Friday - have to go past an A**i to go to A**a - so will call in and do what shopping I can at A**i then do the rest of A**a, shopping bill last week was horrendous so have to get it reduced somehow - really can't afford to spend that much on food etc each week. Will do my best!
Remember the sunscreen if you're going to be out in the sun x
Hugs to those that want/need them, keep safe and well x

Meanmarie - hope all is well with your grandson. But these days they seem to be so much better than it was, little ones can bounce back really well.
Breakfast battle over for another day. Instead of the 'pure sugar for breakfast' battle it was a 'fancy sandwich' battle. I have to provide a packed lunch for little bear next week. I have absolutely no faith in my ability. So when I ordered some books from the Book People (online and on quidco) I included a very inexpensive book on fifty lunch ideas in the order. Except it wasn't ideas about lunches, it was fifty gimmick sandwiches - sarnies in the shape of caterpillars, pirate ships, birthday cakes, sheep, spiders, crocodiles.... And he wanted a crocodile sandwich for breakfast. I offered cereal. We reached an agreement at jam sandwiches which I tolerate as it was on wholemeal bread and the jam probably has less sugar than most children's cereal.
Today holds ironing, my ironing pile is now the size of the Greek deficit. Tea should be burgers in buns if Mr A delivers. Next week I am going to have to sign up to flylady thread, which is scary. The week after we are away on holiday and after that I want to try and treat the writing as if it was a paid job, so I need to put in the hours and I need to fit in the housework around it.
Today I shall also be Aquarius the water carrier - darling father has planted out the garden in red white and blue. I have left the garden to him and he has done wonders, but I don't like him carrying heavy watering cans up and down steep steps. At least I am getting exercise. I think wistfully of growing a few tomatoes or some lettuce, but we have petunia and lobelia, and it will look lovely.

Morning all,
i slept well last night. I was a little warm but had most of the upstairs windows open which provided a cool air blast round the bedrooms which was nice. If hubby was home we would have had the air con on full pelt. Actually it will be interesting to see how much electricity the air con unit uses..... Still, i aint paying the bill he is.
One of the benefits of going to bed early was that i got up early too. At 7am i was at our local shop buying more fizzy pop as we had drunk our stock dry. How come when 'he who works' pops in there for something he can spend like a fiver yet me, i came back laden with £20's worth!
Came home, bleached me weeds and some old guy was walking past. "you must be houseproud love" he laughed at me. "No" i replied "I dont like pulling up huge weeds" I told him.
Dogs slept well out of their crates (i'm hoping to get rid of the crates completely unless their ill).
Watered the plants in the greenhouse and am now back in me nightshirt as its cooler.
Son has an exam this morning. Hope he does well.
Will be going to see my Mom at 5. Not looking forward to that and i dont know what to say to her but she has been in my mind a lot lately and i need to know she is ok.

Morning All
Very misty here today, if it burns off it will be another hot one today
Showered, and washing machine on again.
Shopping day for me today so I want to get a few bits from farm foods, the butcher and Wilkinson's. I will get the fruit and veg from the market on Saturday and eggs from our local GG. I have gone through no end of washing powder but seeing as I get that in Asda I will hold out until the end of the month because i am still avoiding the big 4 supermarkups.
Oh well must get dressed have good days all BFN xBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light
