Are Nationwide any good?

We have had no problems with Nationwide. Service is good with local rate numbers or free phone in some cases.
Online banking is easy and you dont have to use the card reader there are other options.
Whenever I have been in branch we have had great help and good service.Living the dream and retired in Cyprus :j

You don't have to use the card reader to log in to internet banking.
People moaning about using a card reader need to understand it is there to protect their money. Been with nationwide 23 years and have always received great service.
Free European Travel Insurance and better Saving rates and Credit Card, overall very happy.0 -
I would say they're above average - I have a FlexAccount (not my main current account any more) and a credit card. The FlexAccount used to be great for using abroad as it was free, but they ended all that. Now you get European travel insurance (which you can upgrade to worldwide by paying extra) thrown in as long as you put in £750 (IIRC) per month.
I've received varying levels of service - sometimes they've been great, other times they've given me incorrect advice or made it quite difficult to get things sorted out.Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks

And you're Peter Duncan; I gave you fair warning0 -
They mucked up my ISA, and were really bad about sorting it out, making error after error. In the end I threated to move all our accounts (including the flex account) if it wasn't sorted. It wasn't sorted, so everything moved.
No problems up to that stage, and never a problem with the Flex account, but I accept that mistakes happen, and think you can tell a lot about a company by how they then deal with that.0 -
I think most banks are very good TBH it just all depends on who you speak to on the day if there are any problems.
I wanted a refund at Barclays and spoke to a horrible woman on the phone and it seemed she didn't care one bit, so decided to go in branch and see a another lady who couldn't do enough for me and problem solved.0 -
I have a flex account (with free European Insurance), ISA (at 4.25%) and CC (commission-free foreign purchases). Granted, I have only been with them for 6 months but have no complaints yet.
Their online banking offers two log in options: with a card reader and using memorable information. Their online customer centre always replied to my enquiries within 48 hours and there was only one incident where it took two attempts to get an explicit answer to my query.
In all, i'm content with them.0 -
Have Flex account with them, never had any problems in 20+ years with them. But never had a problem with Santander in 30+ years nor with HSBC in 5 years.
Maybe I have just been lucky.

I have been with NW for at least two decades and apart from the odd spat, the relationship has been long and fruitful. Recommended.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

Just the same as every other high street bank/building society. They have good and bad, but they are generally ok. I do like their Flexaccount online facilities but I really don't fancy the operation of their "branch only", or their MySave Plus, accounts very much. Also, their branch staff are more often than not in a foul mood. One major negative on the Flexaccount is the 0% interest, but it does come with decent European Travel Insurance cover - - - so if you do travel in Europe, this could be a bonus.
Bottom line is as above - - in the end, they are just the same as every other high street bank/building society.0 -
I Totally agree innovate, I can't get my head around with what a certain banks like as everyones experience differ and they all do the same thing which is you pay money into your account with this service you will recieve a debit card along with a cheque book and also you can also use this service for direct debits.0
