My SKY is getting too expensive!

Hey
I've been reading through the forums to try and find the best way to deal with the ever increasing cost of SKY. Today I received a bill in for just under £150 for the month and here's the breakdown:
TV: £83.79
Slowband: £10
Phone: £49.25
The total cost for TV is just over a thousand pounds and as I'm sure you know, it could be spent on something far better.
So, here's the dilemma.
I have a wife who thinks that getting rid of SKY would be the end of the world. Therefore, I have to look for alternatives.
We stay in Largs, which means I can't get Virgin and dont have much of a bargaining tool.
I'm not sure if I can get FreeSat. Even if I can, my wife loves the 'Greys Anatomy' and Criminal Minds type programs which I don't think are available on FreeSat.
Should I just drop SKY and look for boxsets of her favourite shows?
I also have 2 kids, one of which may suffer with the loss of SKY.
Would I be able to get multiroom FreeSat?
Anyway, thanks for your time and I look forward to your ideas

Drop the HD, the multiroom, the sports and the movies. Drop the slowband and switch to a better provider. Drop the phone and switch to a much cheaper all inclusive provider. Ban everyone in the house from calling mobiles from the landline. Make everyone use an alternate call provider such as 18185 to call international numbers. On non-BT lines you have to dial the 0800 number which costs 1p a minute more than a BT line.
You can get Sky TV for £25 with loads of channels.
You can get Tesco Broadband and home phone with unlimited landline calls for very cheap @ £20.75 for 12 months then £24.75 per month.
If you do switch then use a cash back website such as topcashback or Quidco to switch.:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I pay £21.50 for my Sky tv per month, enough channels to do me & around £25 a month for phone & unlimited broadband with O2.0 -
Wow! That's expensive! I have HD,entertainment extra (all channels including music and kids) and Movies for £47 a month.
How on earth does yours cost so much?
I know when I looked at getting phone (with evening and weekend calls) and unlimited broadband with them too it still only came to 60 something a month
I think you need to drop multiroom, sports or whatever it is that's bumping the cost up so much!If women are birds and freedom is flight are trapped women Dodos?0 -
I must have suffered a LOT during my childhood, although I don't recall it. We had no TV until I was 8; then we had two channels in B&W on a 12" screen - when my father permitted it to be switched on (darkened room). I remember sunny days, playing outside with my friends and siblings.0

How on earth are you spending £50pm on the phone?! Line rental and an Anytime package should cost about £20 maximum. Break your bill down. You must be making a huge no. of exclusive calls (mobile, overseas, premium nos.) to run up that bill.
If you can get Sky, then of course you can get Freesat-the dish alignment is the same. it's a straight box swap. But why not just use Freesat From Sky using your existing Sky box at no charge (however, if you want PVR faciities this won't work-you'll need a Freesat PVR (Humax), which is just a one-off cost.
No multiroom Freesat, but you can just get another free Sky box to use on another TV with !!!!!!.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It would all go, replace it with PASYG o2 mobiles and you will get broadband at £10 a month with a standard BT line.
Then dont plug a phone in the wall.
Use the mobiles.

As above provide a breakdown of your costs, you can see these on your mysky account.
FYI Sky Broadband Unlimited with Talk Freetime is £7.50 / month plus line rental. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Is this on the dreaded Sky Connect service? Sky is LLU on the Largs exchange, if that's what you are connected to.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

I don't understand the 'ever-increasing' cost unless the OP has upgraded their service? There's love in this world for everyone. Every rascal and son of a gun.
It's for the many and not the few. Be sure it's out there looking for you.
In every town, in every state. In every house and every gate.
Wth every precious smile you make. And every act of kindness.
