To be honest, I'm not a fan of having members of the army in my workplace.
We are constantly asked what "military discount" we do, to which the answer is none. Then people just get nasty. I'd rather they go elsewhere.
Nice! What an attitude.
This is in stark contrast to how military personnel are treated in the US.
Most forms of transportation and hotels in the US offer military discounts, as do many other services and retail outlets.
I have just booked an internal flight within the US and there is a small charge for 1 suitcase to be placed in the hold. Military personnel are allowed 5 cases for free - and rightly so IMO.
US troops wearing their uniform in public are treat with complete respect - imagine what the American public would do if 'others' were shouting disparaging remarks during a parade of home coming soldiers such as what happened over here recently.
We shouldn't be surprised really as our military are even treat like crap from our own government - let alone a seedy dive in Blackpool.
An own goal by the bar IMO - unless there is more to this. Were the group rowdy or seemed intent on causing trouble or was the 'Irish' element a factor? Perhaps more information will be forthcoming.0 -

You can see exactly what happens, care of the dickwads from the westboro baptist church. (Not much, BTW. The Americans are pretty hot on free speech just the same as we are.)There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

I wasn't aware of Westboro and Googled it after reading your post. Pretty sick in most peoples eyes - although there is a balance between free speech and incitement - that group seems to fit into the latter category.0 -
I know a lot of bars in blackpool refused to serve british soldiers because the bar owners are republican sympathisers..
Yes, it still goes on.<--- Nothing to see here - move along --->0 -

the same thing happens in retail but i doubt my boss would ban anyone just on the basis of that or the fact they are military ,their money is as good as anyone elses and until they cause trouble just let them be.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Not sure it's true but didn't the sun say that from last year military ID was acceptable. Also I believe they also had their driving licenses with them? The story in the paper says the bouncer refused to accept the driving license and just "no army".This is a system account and does not represent a real person. The MOD said two months ago that their ID can now be used as proof of age; I would expect that to have filtered through to the licensed alcohol traders by now. (BAFF website: MOD 90 to be accepted as proof of age in pubs)0
