VENT Ma Kellys bar, Blackpool

Some ex Army friends arranged a reunion in Blackpool and had this experience:
While in Blackpool at the weekend, 18 of us went to go into Ma Kellys bar, there were 3 young soldiers with us and they would not allow them on the premises saying they did not accept British army..what a bloody cheek. My friends husband confronted them about this and was instantly barred..before he had even got his foot through the door.

Can everyone please pass it on about Ma Kelly's bar in Blackpool who refuse to serve HM armed forces or their families. Also boycott the bar and leave your comments on Ma Kelly's Facebook page. We will not put up with this disgusting discrimination towards our brave soldiers!

I just read the comments on FB and apparently they were refused entry as they didn't have acceptable forms of ID.

damned if they do, damned if the don't.

to be honest the fact that they are in the forces is irrelevant if they couldn't produce correct ID to be served alcohol. there is a lot of s**t stirring going on over on facebook about this

quite a few places in york won't let large groups in, even if they're a family party like this is meant to have been - you're still classed as a group

It sounds like they had no problem with the group. The problem was with the three lads who only had British forces ID. If a photo driving license is acceptable then I don't see why an official forces ID is not also acceptable.

    It all seems very suspicious.....

I just read the comments on FB and apparently they were refused entry as they didn't have acceptable forms of ID.
This must as a minimum require individuals who appear to the responsible person to be under the age of 18 years of age to produce on request (before being served alcohol) identification bearing their photograph, date of birth, and a holographic mark. Examples of acceptable ID include photo card driving licences, passports or proof of age cards bearing the PASS hologram, although other forms of ID which meet the criteria laid out above are also acceptable.

Does a MOD90 not meet all of these requirements? Photo bottom-right, hologram top-left and DOB?

ETA: According to the comments on the Facebook page from people who were present "after the MOD ID had been refused the service lads offered their driving licences. This was refused with the comment, 'No Army'."

They can choose to serve who they wish, Tesco also refuse a MOD card as quite frankly carp and can be forged easily.

So why hate a company when they chose who they wished to serve? More to this story

I would avoid any pub or bar with an 'Oirish' name in England.

Not because I've anything against the Irish, I lived in Eire for three years and loved the place.

The reason I would avoid them is because they are almost always fake 'Kiplingised' standard UK pubs - possible with a bit of theming.
