Just go out and enjoy yourself!! I have made a conscious choice to stay on my own now, and I'm pretty happy with my own company, however I do have several male friends that I go out to dinner with... and they are only friends too! (no benefits :rotfl:)

Apart from the conversation topics, which tend to stay away from hair, makeup and clothes, it's exactly the same as going out with one of my female friends!

Probably not true for them - I bet they all fancy you !

Thank you everyone for the very kind and sensible advice. I am actually looking forward to it ... sort of ... ! Will try to make sure I do come back and post about it afterwards so you get to hear how it went.:)

Keep a small mirror in your bag. You will want to make sure you have nothing stuck to your face, up your nose, or between your teeth - even if it's when he's nipped off to the loo or if he drops his fork!

Good luck, let us know how it goes.

It was lovely. He is lovely: just such a gentle, sweet, transparently honest person (also, IMO, very nice-looking in a totally non-flashy way).

If I was nervous (and I really was!) he was visibly shaking, but we did manage to have a very nice evening and a quiet cup of tea at mine afterwards and I got a lovely text from him first thing this morning and we've arranged to see each other during the week.

On personality alone I think we'll get on really well; my only reservation (apart from my natural solitariness) is that we have very different aptitudes and interests - his are all scientific/technological/mathematical, mine are all literary/cultural. But we did find other things, such as musical tastes, that we had in common, and a similar attitude to family/children (he is an extremely committed dad who sees his children several times a week, no easy feat as they are teenagers; my own ex finds meaningful communication with our two quite difficult). So the other things may not matter in the long run.

Certainly I keep finding myself with a silly smile on my face and daydreaming when I'm supposed to be focusing on something else.

So thank you, everyone; the things you said really did help, and I'm very glad I found the courage to see the date through!
