I had some calls from these guys in the past, the *best* thing you can do is immediately say "I'm required by law to let you know I am recording this call, is that ok? May I start by taking your full name please", they're like kittens after that and don't try underhand tactics.0

What are considered as underhand tactics? Just curious so I know to stay away from them!Beth86

I can't help but feel that this is being done without the full knowledge of - for example - the OFT or the Telecoms watchdog.
This really is tantamount to mental harassment. Not only does the neighbour who gets telephoned get distressed and involved in a matter that has nothing to do with them, but also the "debtor" gets cryptic, anonymous messages through their door. It's plain wrong and we need to do something to stop it. It's a form of stalking - and that is illegal.0 -
WHEN it happens (not 'if' because it will!) you can inform OFT and (someone correct me here, I'm sure that I'm getting this wrong) the Finacial Ombudsman?
It is illegal but most people don't know that and cave into their outrageous demands.

I think we should set up a dealing with DCA site to go along with the consumeraction site, this practice is illegal, breaches privacy laws in so many ways, and i think we should start prosecuting, maybe it would thin out the field of these vile companies0

Hear hear - Kevicho, I agree.
Are any of the Admin/Mods able to move this forward?
We can stop all this stuff from happening if we all get together and actually DO something about it.0 -
Don't DCA's have to abide by the Data Protection Act, surely they can't inform a neighbour that they are chasing you for money.0
