Debt Collectors phoning neighbours.

Hey this has happened to my mum recently. A man telephoned her and asked her if she could pop a note through the door of her neighbour asking if they could telephone this gentleman back and left a telephone number. I was furious - my mum is 72 and is recovering from a hip replacement operation and even though the neighbour lived at number 24 and she lived at number 26 as the houses were detached it was a fair walk to the neighbours house.
That's exactly my point GR. The debt has nothing whatsoever to do with the poor lady with the hip replacement. HOW DARE these people inconvenience her and make her carry out their dirty work for them. The whole practice is WRONG and IMMORAL and we need to have it stopped!0 -

Good for you! They count on people being so scared about their calls that I reckon they sometimes don't account for people actually standing up to these guys.
I'm working on my script for these people...
It'll be something like...
"Prisoner 23567...CCCS Number 23455....now sod off"

How about saying "I'm so glad you rang. I'm just on the other line to the Office of Fair trading putting in a complaint about harassment from your company. Can you hang on?" Then just leave the phone off the hook for 20minutes. (I did somehting like this for a pushy double glazing company)Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)0

I was phoned and asked about my neighbour. The house was rented next door and had a quick turnover of people. They were asking how often she was in, was she away at weekends, how many people lived at the house etc. I was deliberately vague but called believe the nerve. I have to say the caller was well trained and I bet they get a good success rate. I felt like i was being interviewed by the police....0

I wouldn't have thought it was legal, but DCA's obviously think they are beyond the law.0
