Debt Collectors phoning neighbours.

There is a spate of this going on at present according to various debt forums.

DCA's are using databases like 192.com to search for and then telephone neighbours of "clients" to ask them to stick a note through the debtors door to tell them to contact the DCA.

J2 Solutions, Wescot and Link Financial are all guilty of this tactic which goes against OFT guidelines - not that that seems to bother anyone.

The point is the neighbours are often elderly persons who get intimidated by these types of telephone calls - especially if the DCA puts an amount of "pressure" on them to answer their questions and to contact the debtor.

I personally think this tactic is a major breach of privacy laws and would like to see a campaign on here to stop this tactic from happening.

I'm not condoning people in debt avoiding their creditors - I am condeming the low-life tactics that these - so called - professionals are using.

No, they CAN'T do it but they do! They are barstewards.

I had MBNA threatening all sorts of things, like they were going to sit outside my house in a van with 'Baliffs' etc on the side and that they were going to take my house away from me...

    Most have NO scruples whatsoever.

Hey this has happened to my mum recently. A man telephoned her and asked her if she could pop a note through the door of her neighbour asking if they could telephone this gentleman back and left a telephone number. I was furious - my mum is 72 and is recovering from a hip replacement operation and even though the neighbour lived at number 24 and she lived at number 26 as the houses were detached it was a fair walk to the neighbours house.

I telephoned the gentleman back and had a rant and asked where he'd got my mums details from and he told me the Electoral Register, he'd obviously gone through 192.com then to get her telephone number.

They would get a shock if they tried getting me to do that. I'd tell them exactly where they could shove their note in graphic detail

I can, I've only had one run in with a numpty from MBNA and some of the stuff he tried to tell me could do would make your hair curl.

Oh yes, they were by far the WORST!
I was a quivering wreck at first then I eventually stood up to them (thanks to everyone on MSE) and told them to take a flying leap. I was called from 5 am til midnight, emailed, text etc.
    It was pure harassment.

And I know they called my neighbours as well...

I can see the humour in it now, however, at the time it was truly harrowing.

I would have probably have done sothing very drastic if it weren't for the support on this forum.
