Paying it off (slowly and with the odd stall!)

Well I've braved my very own diary! I had my official LBM on 10th April 2012 and have scoured everybody elses diary for the last 6 weeks so now it's time to start my own :)

After living frugally for several years being a SAHM I got a job... and quickly got into the attitude of 'well were working we can pay it off' and ran up £1600 on a credit card, bought a car, mobile phone contracts, took out a catalogue, oh and a home improvement loan!!!

STOP !!!!!

Nope, we can't afford it if we're buying it all on credit !!
I'm so thick sometimes !!!

Well, my thick days are over and these bills will be paid! We don't struggle with payments but now I have to learn to live frugally again and make even bigger payments.

My current DFD is July 2016.......but I'm soooooo going to beat that!

Welcome to my Diary :D:D:D

    Hello payingitoff

I don't remember when I had my LBM, probably about the time all the CC's were maxed and I couldn't pay more than the minimum...... Started a diary myself, need something to keep me focused :)

So, I'm subscribing to your diary, looking forward to joining you on your DFW journey :j

I can't believe 63 people have looked at your post and not replied. Good luck with your debt free journey. You sound really focussed - I'm sure you'll beat your 2015 DFD!

    Hi payingitoff!

I am a fellow newbie and in a similar position to you financially. The LBM is a great turning point, pretty shocking when you add up all the "little" bits and end up with half your yearly salary debt! :(

These forums have been really helpful and makes me feel much more positive about paying it off. The stress of it all was starting to make me feel ill- even though I can afford the repayments, the cloud of debt hanging over me is something I have never felt before, and its horrid!

Good luck with beating your debts, hopefully we can get to our DFDs much sooner!

    pencakes :)

    Thank you all !!

Well I did everything wrong yesterday - bought a sandwich at work, told hubby to go the chippy for tea and bought all my drinks from the coffee machine instead of taking my own cup and milk!

Gosh I will have to get better than this won't I !!

I know what I have to do...it's just putting it all into practice now.

Hmmmm, not as easy as I thought it was going to be.

So what will I do today.. make sandwiches and take my own drinks...small but it's a start!

Well thats the holiday over and the credit card increased slightly:o

I feel like Jeckyll and Hyde! I know I shouldnt have used it but the holiday was booked before my LBM so I also knew I would have to use it - that make sense ? :undecided

Well it's back to it and I am going to pay £296 off my debts in June. Not bad considering I also have a family wedding and 2 birthdays to consider!

Happy note I have actually cleared the catalogue account today :j - that feels good !!!

Now to tackle the credit card with a good days e-baying to make some extra payments :)

    Hi Payingitoff!

Just found your diary. I too wish the month away to get to payday to pay more off!!

Well done on your journey so far xx

  • It's been a hard month paying out for things we comitted to prior to LBM - feel guilty every time I spend money on something.
Got a big family wedding coming up and I know we need new outifts and a gift and all the other expenses that come with it.

I'm trying hard not to overspend but I know we will get even more straight from July onwards. Increased all my direct debits and standing orders to pay some more off and leave a little in the account for ourselves.

Looking forward to Friday when I get paid and debt comes down!
