Sounds cheap when you read the OP's driving history

Kids don't get a decent break on car insurance. And as beth.stephenson2009 says, they live where their parents live, and don't live on a bus route. So it's a bit rough if they are actually responsible enough to get a job, then want to legally insure their car so they can get there. It's far easier to claim benefit, or just take a chance uninsured now. Do you really think you're 18 times less likely to have an accident, so should pay 18 times less insurance?0 -
With insurance prices like that I would forget about fancy expensive (and expensive to repair) cars like the new Mini.
I'd also forget about tiptronic. You'll find it less useful than you think.
Get something boring, 90s and Japanese like a Nissan Sunny until you can build up a bit of no claims!0 -

I don't know. Clearly the insurance companies do think I'm statistically 18 times less likely to have an accident. I did make one claim in 1974 (none since, touch wood), but the other guy was done for driving without due care and attention. A good record must help a lot.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0 -

Maybe yes, maybe no, but if you make a claim this year, would you expect your insurance to go up to £300 a month, or even more? Because you're no longer a statistic, you'll have a track record of making claims, and as such would be infinitly worse than you were this year. Sometimes I doubt the direct link with cost to statistics, and think it's very easy just to jump on the bandwagon and repeat the buzzwords without understanding them.0 -

I can't disagree with you; I think car insurance costs for young people have got completely beyond reason. My first car was a 1937 MG TA which my dad bought me as an 18th birthday present in 1964, and the insurance was £11 a year - about a week's average wage at the time. An 18 year old today would pay much more than an average week's wage for a year's insurance for a sportscar, even a classic one with poor performance. I know the risk of an expensive accident is high for young people, especially young men, but insurance costs are forcing them off the road - and that isn't right.I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0
