  • I doubt very much that another council would take you on. Can the father not provide a deposit for a private rented property?

SS will not take your child from you for being evicted, lots of people get evicted, i know of 3 people who have been evicted with children and been re-housed, although with a different council (the neighbouring borough) i think shelter is definately the place to go.

i think you may be entitled to a sure start one off maternity payment, go and ask for a form from your local job centre, its for £500 and they don't ask for it back....you apply for it quite late on in the pregnancy like 32 weeks or summat like that...you need to be on the higher rate of child tax (your inland revenue letters will tell you if you are or not or give them a call).

    Good luck.

So would you reccommend that i go to ss or to my neighbouring council? I had a look on the shelter website & will call them in the morning & see what they say.

As for my dd's father, I have had 30quid from him in 7 years, he deliberately works cash in hand to avoid paying maintenance, and lives with his mum so that he can claim she 'keeps' him- please don't get me started on him or I won't stop!

Katie your best bet would be to try shelter first and see what they suggest as they are fully trained in how to deal with your circumstances, is there no way you can arrange to pay off the arreers?

Let us know how it went.

Also, even though they are asking for the arrears in one lump, if you don't pay them like that but start paying them off gradually they will reduce. As I said before, they won't go away. As long as you have them hanging round your neck and don't show any sign that you are trying to reduce them, AFAIK you WILL be at a disadvantage in terms of getting a full tenancy,
