Thanks ladies - never seen Quiz before but I'll take your advice that it isn't the best quality and will leave it well alone.
I think this is a very feminine dress, and the drape would be flattering if you have a bit of a tum. If it fits your shape well you'll feel like a grecian goddess! As MM says, the length is crucial - shouldn't cut you at the wides point of your calves or IMO hover around your knees - clearly above or below. It's versatile, you can dress it up or down.ciderwithrosie wrote: »Been after a green dress for a while, for summer evening things, I know it's only Matalan but what do you think....

I'm 5ft 3" and a big hourglass! The one review said it was a flattering cut

What a fab thread idea!
The green dress is very stylish and would suit an hourglass. That's a good find because it looks like it comes from a more expensive shop than Matalan.
Not keen on the long navy dress; I think it looks a bit unimaginative but would be a safe and classy choice if you wanted to blend in.
The parka is a nice shape but I think the colour makes it look a bit like a jacket an older lady would wear. Would be lovely in navy though. I usually find that if I'm wavering and haven't worn something I've bought, it's probably not right.
The Quiz dress is surprisingly stylish based on my experiences of the shop. You'd have to judge the fabric but on the face of it the print looks expensive, I like the trim and it would look great with a tan.
Not loving the black dress. I think it breaks the "either legs or chest, not both" rule and the spaghetti straps look a bit unimaginative/dated. Really wish I had something worth putting into a deep V neck though, so I am jealous!
The jumpsuit leaves me cold I'm afraid. Not sure I would like this on Naomi Campbell!0 -

I have a dress very simular in shape to this (bought from DP's at Christmas - black sparkly number ) and I have found it is quite a flattering shape, so it gets the thumbs up from me

I bought this dress yesterday from Debenhams - couldn't resist looking online today to see if I could have got a better deal (I couldn't have). I do like it, but was rather swayed by the reaction when I stepped out of the dressing room and am wondering whether it is actually worth the price (£38.50, reduced from £55). I tried this on at full price a few months ago, Betty Jackson. Black isn't it? I am a sucker for red dresses anyway and thought it was a very flattering easy to wear style that could be dressed up or down. The red wasn't as rich as I would have liked, but still a versatile dress.
My issue with it unfortunately was the back view. Whilst the front is flatteringly draped, the back is completely smooth and unforgiving, a bit of a design contradiction, I thought especially as BJB caters for a slightly older age range.
Every ridge and ripple shows through so even if you are very slim, you need to be very aware of underwear lines! Otherwise, a good buy at that price, I reckon and it does get great reviews.

My backside would look huge in that, it's a shame, the front is very flattering.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

I had a load of them - when I was 8! I had a pink one with a pink sheer overskirt which I wore to a wedding and a purple one with diamantes on that I wore to my year 5 disco, where I got ceremoniously and rather publicly rejected by my crush

I think it is lovely and looks like it will drape well which is always good for any fat days or TOTM bloating.
Taking into account what other posters have said about the back being unflattering, I am loving H&M shapewear just now. I have bought loads of magic knickers from various places over the years and most of it hasn't been worn as the practice wears in the house inevitably end up with it rolling down or cutting off all circulation leaving me in danger of keeling over.
Their shapewear shorts are fab. I am quite short in the body and they go right up to under my bra and would probably go over my boobs if I pulled! They smooth out all the lumps and bumps and have me much more conscious of my posture.
http://www.hm.com/gb/product/02917?article=02917-A Granted they are not the most glam item I own and they never get hung out on the washing line but I woudn't be without them now.If you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0 -

That is so true - exactly what I said as I observed my derriere VPL lol! But the strangers in the changing room were just so wowed by it that my ego just took over....My issue with it unfortunately was the back view. Isn't it funny, you know you're getting older when you head straight for Betty Jackson Black! I'm ashamed to say it's my favourite concession in Debenhams now
. It's 13 months until I hit 40 so I'm justified. Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
