Well quite annoyed (ish) with the outcome. Sent off my claim for expenses to HMRC expecting a cheque to come through, but no, they have changed my tax code for this year instead!!
I'm guessing (can anyone clarify) that i will have to be the one to remember to get this changed back next year  as if i don't i will be paying too little tax
Does anyone else have any experience of this?
I was hoping i'd get a cheque throughDEBT FREE AND PROUD'Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt'0 -
It may just be that you have been provisionally given mileage allowance for this tax year (12/13) on the basis you are in the same job - are you? - and the tax code has arrived faster than the calculation for last year (11/12). Hope you have ignored Katsu's comments about the refund. If you claimed mileage expenses of £800 then your repayment (assuming no other complications) would be just under £160. If you pay higher rate tax (income £40k+) you could receive more and remember if you didn't pay tax you won't receive anything.0
