If you have kept records you can back date your claim.

There are cut off dates but I claimed for I think, 2005 and 2006 just before the end of the last tax year. So you should be able to go back a couple of years at least.

I was told that you can specify that the payment is made by cheque in a lump sum.... The DFW thing to do would be to pay off some debt....but hey, I'm not your mum :-)

Definately what the plan is if i get anything back. fingers crossed. The form is quite confusing and it's not asking for reciepts or anything.

No, you need the recipes to work out what you need to claim and the difference between what you were paid by your employer and what you should be getting. It should all work out to be 45p per mile under 10K miles and 25p thereafter. So, if you did more than 10K miles, you can only claim 3p per mile since your employer pays you 22p. For all under 10K, you need to subtract 22p from 45p and that's what you multiply the total miles by.....

The mileage claim i submit monthly to payroll has the number of miles and cost paid by company for that trip, my payslip will show what i was paid that month. Am i right in thinking i wont need the reciepts? (hope not because work has them all!)

You should get a rebate just so long as you've got a record of your mileage.

I always get two receipts when i buy my petrol, because i know companies want the original vat receipts. They're not daft, they're in business.

No, you don't need the receipts in that case. You just need a sharp pencil and 10 minutes of arithmetic. Essentially, multiply the total miles just as I described and check it all adds up properly. The form walks you through it.

Take care, it was 40p ore mile last year and 45p this year....
