inappropriate comment??

Hello

I know this may sound rather school playground ish but..... Would you consider being called a "teachers pet" at work discrimation and a violation of the human rights?

This was said when the person was angry. By the way it was said by an employee who is always in the office reporting staff for one thing or another that are just silly petty things. I don't really want to go to her level but am quite angry with the comment. Help me out guys!! what would you do/say?

Shrugs life is way too short for me to even worry about that and def not a violation of rights, merely an opinion of a colleague.

Grow up and learn how to work in a team instead of stirring up trouble for the sake of it. A single coment is not bullying, and if you're angry it's because it's hit a nerve.

    This!

Am intrigued at what "human right" has been violated, and which protected characteristic they have which has caused the "discrimination"?

It's not discrimination - you can only be discriminated on the grounds of a protected characteristic - teacher's pet isn't one of them.

The Human Rights Act is nothing to do with employment

Seriously, if you can't just shrug it off then tell her calmly you did not appreciate the comment and in future would expect that she conduct conversations with you in a professional manner.

If that does not work then you need to start keeping a log of these incidents and potentially you may hav a case for a grievance on grounds of bullying - possibly, maybe depending on how it affects you but hoenstly you've said yourself she's a drama queen (reading between the lines) and reactive rather than being deliberately nasty.

Can I ask what you are employed as?
In most of my jobs that would be beyond tame compared to what went on day to day.

No I would not say it is a violation of anything really. However I do understand how little niggly things can add up, and your colleague appears to be a serial niggler. My advice when everyone else is childish - be the adult. Ignore if you can or if you feel up to it address the inappropriate behaviour by taking her aside for a private chat - something along the lines of .... " I really do not know what you mean to achieve by calling me names like that, but I do not like it and would like you to stop" Do not listen to excuses " I was only joking" or attempts to shift the blame to you "why can't you take a joke". Good luck.

Yes it sounds very school playground-ish, and rising to such a comment would be descending to her level. And possibly a bit below her level.
