The OP doesn't say that the one on ebay is identical, I have assumed it is slightly different as otherwise the OP wouldn't be asking how to tell the value of his.

soolin wrote:That's not a bad idea Juno. I'm sure there must be places that can value an item, what about cash convertors or such like, pretend you want to hock it and see what they say.
Having an idea of value would at least give you a chance of setting your price right on ebay.

Taking a combo of post number one, six, and eight, I have perhaps wrongly assumed that the cockerel depicted is the same as the OP's.
One thing is for sure ..... I'd want paying to take it away!!! :rotfl:The MSE Dictionary

I have put the photo on here because it is exactly like it! I would be asking the value as people on ebay have no idea what their items are worth! I emailed the seller and said I have an identical item! She didn't have to but she emailed me back saying she didn't know its value as she is no expert but she thinks it is worth £100+ as she paid £110 for it about 5 years ago! from an antiques fair.
Cash converters or the like would not tell me the full value as they would want to make money! also I don't have one near me!
Obviously I want as much as I can get so I don't want to list it for 99p! I may just do the same as the other auction as she advised me she has had lots of enquiries and 13 watchers!

Why do you think I am selling it!
I had to hang on to it for a year!! as it was a gift! It would be a lovely item for the right person!

Maybe sellers don't have a clue what they are selling ...... But the buyers do know what they are buying (usually), which is the all important factor.
Regardless of what You, I, Yer Granny, or the guy in the fish and chip shop who knows a bit about antiques thinks, it's what buyers on EBay are willing to pay that matters, which is why, when it comes to collectibles, I start everything at 99p, and let the buyers decide.

I hope it hasn't seen the light of day.
Just a thought. Given the items fragile nature, I wonder if others more familiar with selling such goods feel that this impacts prices?
i.e. Are buyers put off by bad experiences of such goods in the mail, a fear of breakage, the knowledge that such goods aren't covered against breakage? (or they never used to be)The MSE Dictionary

This is really fascinating me, I can't help keep checking the auction to see how it is going..then it dawned on me that all her watchers are probably us! >
Shame she is selling it after Easter, I wonder if it might have gone well as an Easter gift a week or so ago?
Incidentally, I don't think it is Murano, they keep the same sort of patterns for their items and there are some photos of cockerels on this page which are not the same at all.
http://www.great-glass.co.uk/library/lib4b.htm
I've got quite a bit of Murano glass and it tends to have more colour within the body of the item and look more 'real' rather than stylised.
It;s absolutely addictive though, isn't it?

Well.......... You could always list with a BIN of price of say £35 and hope Mary M wants a matching pair, rather than now has a matching pair.
