so. HOW do you find a builder?

since "mybuilder" & co is not all god
and I do not have anyone who can recommend a builder
how I could find a trusted builder?
not the one who just "money-money-money!!" or "tea-tea-tea! and biscuits!"

Recomendation, it's the only way, plus try to find someone local so you can actually knock on their door if you reach issues.

And also because I hate national companies in respect of building works and believe we, you, should support the local rather than national economy.

Sorry for the slight rant, :D
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

    Yellow pages?
    Thomson Local?
Google search for builders in your area?

The only way you can find a trusted builder is by strong recommendation and viewing their previous work.

All builders require tea and biscuits to function.

How do you find a trusted car mechanic, or a florist, or a Solicitor, or a supermarket?

    It's all the same

you could join which? (they often have first 3 months free deals) and then look on which?local, which has a big list of recommended trades people in your area. Trades can only get listed by a which? member and then other members use and rate them.
It's like having an instant set of friends or family who can recommend.

BTW I don't work for which? but I am an electrician who had been recommended on the site for the last few years (I think I've now got 17 reviews - all positive I might add!)

    Dunno.

How do you find a good customer ?

Not the ones who just scream "cheap", "cheap", "cheap" then go crying on internet forums when the job is rubbish.

Tis a conundrum to be sure ...

    What's wrong with mybuilder?

My sister had the wrong tooth pulled out once.

    :D FANTASTIC!! :T

You have to be carefull regardless where you look -
    yellow pages dont check
    online companies dont check

Ive used online companies (my builder, rated people)
some great trades some fired, no diff then out the paper.

Its a 'catch 22' for a recommend, you need customers to be recommended and you need to be recommend for customers

as each quoter for references - there and then, call some when hes with you

    good luck

We have had our share of 'cowboys' in the past but we have just found a really good builder on our county council website. They have a list of trusted traders and we chose from that. No sure if all councils do this though.

Might be an idea to say what sort of project you are undertaking and area of the country. That way you may get some recommendations via this forum.

Get your plans drawn by a local professional may be a member of CIAT or CIOB.

They will have trusted builders that you can get quotes from and by having plans you weed out some of the bad ones as there is less space for confusion on the job required.
