I doubt confirmation will be necessary; my initial suggestion might be more accurately termed an IPS+LED TFT-LCD but some people consider the truth to be a detriment to their livelihoods.

I simply can't resist making fun of marketing spiel. :D

Tanglefoot, , just for the record, and respectfully, the Beng BL2201pt is a LED monitor (unless of course our definitions of LED differ?) http://benq.co.uk/products/LCD/index.cfm/product/1213

You can see that it uses LCD technology from the URL! :p

No reply yet from OP, probably scared off by the nit-picking. :D

Spud, thats a LCD monitor (and a very good one at that), the LED equivalent is the BenQ BL2201P

Just for the record, can someone please explain to a peasant like me, how the BenQ BL2201PT is an LED (backlight) monitor, whilst my BenQ GL2250 is not?

Or have BenQ got it wrong?

Why not get the cheaper BenQ G2222HDL? Less than a ton all in.

I agree that Benq have confused the issue. If you click on the link that Esuhl provided it should be clear to one and all (assuming one can read) that the BL2201PT is a LED monitor

I think you'll find that if you click on the link below it will tell you that the GL2250 is a LED monitor too - just ignore the "LCD" in the URL as it is misleading. The link also explains the difference between standard LCD panels and these "LED" panels

LCD (liquid crystal display) is the technology used in the screen. Behind the screen there needs to be a light to illuminate the pixels. That tends to be either cold-cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFLs) or light-emitting diodes (LEDs).

So both types use LCD; LCD and LED aren't mutually exclusive.

Twisted Nematic to save a tenner? I wouldn't... but that's just me. ;)

We have used the Benq now for over a year as the preferred 22" monitor where clients want something simple for under a ton (Amazon at under £97).

Ignoring all the point scoring above!, We will give the Viewsonic a whirl, as it does represent good value for a 22" "LED" screen at £112 (Amazon), notwithstanding that Viewsonic have not traditionally been known for cheap/good monitors in the past.

Based on my experience, I'd avoid Acer. When mine failed (6 months from new) they expected me to ship it back to them, and they'd send me a (presumably 'reconditioned') one back. Which meant I'd be getting a second hand monitor, and be without my PC for a few days.

I would recommend Amazon. As I'd bought it from them I gave them a ring. They immediately sent me a new one and a reply paid label to send my old one back.

The replacement has been 100% reliable, fortunately.
