gosh, it looks like I am poo-pooing every idea you lot come up with .... I don't mean it to come across like that, honest! I am very grateful. You are giving me food for thought (pardon the pun). It's just finding the solution that is right for us might take a little while.Olympic Countdown Challenge #145 ~ DFW Nerd #389 ~ Debt Free Date: [STRIKE]December 2015[/STRIKE] September 2015

Hi mrsspendalot,
The fruit and veg in lidl is much cheaper than the average supermarket so it may be worth trying there ....oh just read that you don't have one near you, sorry.Have you tried your local greengrocer? They may be cheaper than you think. I have three children who eat fruit like it's going out of fashion and my greengrocer has great variety that is much better quality than my local Tesco and it's about the same price.
Have a look at a few shopping comparison websites to find one to suit you:
mysupermarket (my favourite)
tesco pricecheck
madaboutbargains
trollydolly
fixture ferrets (I think this one charges now, but I may be mistaken)
You don't buy from them but they tell you what's cheapest/on offer this week to give you an idea where best to shop.
Also take a look at the getting started threads: The Complete 'Getting Started' Collection and if you hit any problems then come back and ask....there will always be someone around with a suggestion.

Aww dont worry people make suggestions but as everyones family is different then not all suggestions will fit your individual circumstances.

The thing that sang out to me was the toilet wipes, I know they're very handy and you might occasionally find a pack lurking round the back of my loo, but boy are they expensive. Why not have a look at the stardrops thread. Personally i find there's almost nothing that you can't clean with washing up liquid, bleach or a hoover.
Likewise the baby wipes, my mum used to bang on about be baby lotion and cotton wool, and I tried it for my babes with success. Iwould add that wipes are pretty essential for going out or particularly unpleasant nappies!Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0 -

this will depend on where you live but check out the prices in your local butcher - usually much better quality & cheaper prices. Same for a bakers - that's not cheap bread you're buying0

Hiya mrsspendalot.
Your shopping list looks ok.
The only thing i would say is the chips vs potatoe thing, a bag of tescos value spuds costs approx £1.70- a bag of these make enough homemade chips for 6 of us (4 kids 2 adults all big eaters) for 4 meals, enough spuds left over for sheperds pie and mash for a roast dinner, and a few left for jacket spuds.
I havent bought frozen chips since finding this site.
Just think you can strech potatoes out so far hence saving a few pennys.Proud to be DEBT FREE AT LAST0
