  • Hi Hypno...... just been doing some housework and thinking about ur elec bills..... yeah I know that's odd!

U said u tried a week without the tumble dryer, and it only decreased ur usage by 10%..... I can't remember how much u said u paid a month, but IIRC it was quite high.... so I was thinking....

    1) is ur meter definately working properly?
    2) are u on the correct tarrif?

I'm sure u've already thought of this, but I ask this cuz when we moved in here, after 6 months paying high bills, we discovered that a) we were on an Econ7 tarrif and b) our meter wasn't switching to the 'cheap' elec at night....we had a rebate for nearly £450.

If its not just the tunmble dryer, there must be something else that it eating ur elec.... perhaps u could do a scaled down version of ur dryer-free week, and unplug one different appliance a day after reading the meter, maybe it'll throw some light on where all ur elec's going...

    Just a thought

Hi Sarahneedle! The electricity usage actually went UP by 10% when I wasn't using the drier etc!! I really must investigate further, although I have to admit to using the tumble drier again this week :o

 That's not good! But if the usage goes up when u stop using the drier, technically ur being MSE by using it:confused:

I'll hold my hands up to using the drier a lot too (OH likes his towels fluffy) but now that its got a bit warmer/sunnier, I am trying my hardest to put stuff on the line....... she says, listening to the dog's bedding going round in the drier, and at peak time too!:o

I don't blame your friend for marching you back to the supermarket.
I bought Fairtrade coffee once-and it was so revolting I took it back. Luckilly I bought it at the Co-Op who refunded me double the price back which I was very happy with. Was even happier when £3 vouchers from customer services arrived three days later.......and happier still when a duplicate letter and another £3 of vouchers arrived the next day ! :D

Thank you! Duchy, I will go off and have a look if they have a "satisfaction guaranteed" thing - It really was not a good way to start the day!!

Right, have been working, one way or another, for most of the day. Time to stop now, to go and get DD from guides in 10 mins then to have a bit of a collapse on the sofa and an early night.

Sadly, I got a phone call from MiL to say that they think Grandpa is slipping away, so OH is going there when he finishes work, to say his goodbyes, and prop his Mum up a bit. Sad but inevitable - Grandpa is 94 and has had a pretty good life. Comes to us all I suppose.

Anyway, I have 10 mins to catch up with some posts before I get DD, hope you are all having a good evening x
