Glad the children are having a good time and who knows maybe they'll be placed. Our council I think offers help with sporting costs in some circs and I wondered if yours might, but I'm sure you'd have tried that. There's a lot of talk around just now about encouraging sport what with childhood obesity and the olympics here in 2012.

Well, we have just returned from a fantastic day. We have not been to a competition like this before, and it was just fab! The races were knockout rounds and DS skied a blinder each time - considering he doesn't ski this type of race normally, he did amazingly well, against people who do this thing day after day after day.

He reached the final and was in a photo finish for 3rd place, before being pipped by another lad. So DS was gutted not to have got on the podium but made up he made the final 4 at such a high level in a type of skiing he is not used to.

Even better, was that the lad who was 3rd, came up to him after prizegiving and shared his goody bag of prizes with my DS - excellent sportsmanship and really made the day.

The sun was shining and it was just so good.

The weekend continues tomorrow and I am shamed to say that we are not doing the car boot but are going back to watch the competition. It is snowboarders tomorrow and if it is half as good as today it will be worth seeing.

so now I have to work out another way of raising money instead of tomorrows car boot.........hmm

Well done to DS!!! What did he get from the goody bag?

That does sound like a fantastic day, I hope you feel better after your wobble a day or two ago. Did the excitement today help affirm your decision to focus on paying for the kids to ski.

(I can't believe I just used the word 'affirmed'.)

Oh absolutely affirmed. In fact I am all affirmed out!!

The goody bags weren't that fab, but he got a magazine, notebook, pen, keyring, stuff like that. It was the principal of the thing that made me smile inside - they had never met before, because they ski on different circuits usually, but at the end of the day they respected each other's drive etc

So yes, I am determined to allow them to do their season, however tough I make things for myself!!

I have collected a couple of freecycle webcams tonight - brand new, still in boxes. They can be used when the children are away so we can talk on MSN!

Boy am I glad that I didn't do the carboot this morning :o I got up at 8, a veritable lie in for me, and DD is still asleep!

I will have to catch up by doing a mid week one, not this coming week but the week after I think. I know I have copped out of today when I should have just got up, but I needed the sleep.

The childrens godparents collected some ski equipment for the club yesterday and delivered it to us. They can claim milage etc but they have asked that it is donated to the kids ski fund! So that will be about £75 when it arrives.

We have got about 50 boxes which are awaiting funds to be received before they can be filled in, so our provisional total is currently far higher than the one in my sig. However, I am waiting until the money actually hits the account from each source before I update it, just in case! Things like quidco etc can't really be relied on, but on the other hand, I have 10 boxes worth of money in cashback sites so if it comes through it makes quite a bit of difference!!

    So, we are getting there......

  • aww sorry you've had a tough week! Hug for you! You are doing SO well & sound incredibly busy! I know what you mean about birthday pressies...it can be so hard when others can splurge and you have to say no especially as I suspect that is DFW'ers are quite generous, which is how we got here in the first place!! Skiing sounds good...where is the big trip being planned & when? I won a week to Val d'isere last year and was able to take mum who loved it! As a weeble I hated the skiing but a week away was bliss! Just have a look at dorset cereals and watch for upcoming comps - I think they own each other IYKWIM so I suspect that comp will be annual! Dont worry about the car boot - sure there's another next week & sounds as if a bit of a chill wouldnt go amiss! Great that Pania was there for a hug!! Big online one from me!

thanks FF, and thank you for the hug. That is what i like about this site, someone always around to pick you up!

The children go glacier skiing in Austria in October, then go to Chamonix in France for the rest of the season, darting here and there for various races throughout.

I am sooooo jealous - want to go and do a season myself. Maybe I should take my "gap year" that I never had as a teenager, and go and become a chalet maid.........(maybe not!).

Will keep my eye out for Dorset cereals comp for sure!

LOL Seaxwyn. DS has already said he wants to become an instructor, and wants to do so in the States because then language won't be a problem - lazy tike!!!

DD just wants to be a ski-bum. Not sure what her plans are, other than she wants to ski, and perhaps to a bit of boarding.

Oh to be young with such wonderful plans!

    Hi hypno

Aww, :grouphug: :grouphug: for you. I'm glad you're taking today off - we all need enough sleep with what we're doing. And your kids need their sleep, with all the energy they're putting out.

I had a really long day yesterday - 15 hours out the house, and tho I loved the daytime stuff of exhibition and chatting with a friend, I *hated* the evening, passionately. Nothing bad happened at the do, just triggered me completely, the sort of event that I hate, be lovey-dovey and all happy-wappy, and I can't stand it. It wasn't quite like that really, but thats how I felt. And I sat on the sidelines and sobbed, for ages and ages. Several people came by and listened, but then tried to cheer me up, which feels like more of the message of "be happy-wappy" and really, really didn't help. The upshot was that when I finally got home, I went to bed and slept for over 7 hours, which is unheard of for me, and felt wonderful.

Uh, that was the link.... sleeping..... didn't mean to focus in on my own stuff *quite* so thoroughly, sorry!

Anyway, back to reality for me today, thank god. The Cleaning Of The Porch, preparatory to the guys doing the last of the filling in and whitewashing and levelling the floor, hurray.

What will you be doing today? *please* say you're going to slob out!
