I'm up for a challenge but we've both got a way to go to catch seaxwyn up:eek::eek::eek:
I know. I am counting on my lottery ticket coming up trumps (don't normally get one, but went through quidco for £5 cashback!!) in order to move me forward!
I have sold something on ebay for £1.99 today - one tiny step closer to being debt freeSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Glad Girls Aloud was good fun.
Another one here to is glad that August is over - it was the longest month ever money wise for us but we made it with about £30 to spare :T (partly thanks to my mum paying for a tank of petrol when they came to stay last week). Today we went to tescos and did a big shop as an experiment - all the non perishables and food for the weekend and then we'll do top up shops for veg, milk, bread and meat each week - hope it'll work if not we'll go back to weekly next month.

Morning all :hello:
Well, the new student arrives today - had to have a little chuckle at Yorkielass's comment about £ signs in my eyes!! I just have to clean the bathrooms and do the bedding in her room and then we will be just about ready.
A friend of ours has a son who is 13 today, so need to have a rummage in the cupboard to see what I can find as a suitable present - with a teenager I am bound to get it wrong, but I will see what I can find, to avoid spending any money today!
I hope you all have a good day, and that the sun is shining for you xxSuccessful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
Good luck with the student! you're braver than me! lol!Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

thanks IA, this is the 4th year we have had a student, and with £120 a week being paid by them, there is nothing to be brave about!!
However, on the CV from this girl, she says "never one to say no to a party" *hypno rushes off to hide tesco value vodka:eek: *Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Oh boy, I hope it goes well with this one:eek: (KC contemplates hypno's empty vodka bottle, with resultant sick all over the bathmat).
Parties are good tho - I'm missing being on here to make comments throughout the day, how nuts is that? I'm off to London today, an SF thing at Earls Court. They're usually very cult, full of people who are otherwise complete unknowns, but today......... Patrick Stewart ring any bells, anyone? I am *not* going to get an autograph - its going to be a minimum of £20, maybe 25. I'll pay my £5 entrance fee, and chat to my friend, thats it. And a cuppa tea, have to have one of those.
Seriously, hope the cleaning-up and the student-arrival goes well, and that she *doesn't* see the pound signs in your eyes. Good luck!2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
I hope you have a really good day at Earls court - I am sure you will enjoy yourself, star-spotting and all!!
If the student is sick on the bathmat, she jolly well clears it up herself!! I have my own bathroom thank goodness
Speaking of which, I really had better get a move on, go and have a shower and get that bathroom clean before I go and pick her up!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Good Luck with the new student, Hypno, although you are an 'old hand' at it by now so have probably already encountered all their little problems and coped with them in your usual unflappable way:beer:
One thing I wondered about was whether the students spent much time socialising with your own children, there being a bit of an age-difference. Or do they have their fellow Norwegians round to the house a lot? Just being nosy:o. We've had teenage French visitors a few times(just for a week at a time as part of the local town's Twinning initiative) and the house seemed to be permanently filled with French teenagers always dropping in to chat to their compatriots. Not quite the same as your situation though as the whole area seemed to be taken over by the French for one week every year:eek: . We've not participated for a couple of years and don't exactly miss it!0 -
Morning Hypno, I hope all goes well with the new student! If you come on here later with slightly slurred typing we'll know its the value vodka! Have a good day xMFW

Hello Hypno, I've been away for a week and your thread has moved on 12 pages! What have I missed? (I can't read all 12 pages, much as I want to - unpacking to do, online accounts to check....) Please fill me in on any highlights from the past week.
Am I right in thinking the total in your signature has shrunk a little? Well done you. Particularly well done for achieving that in August - I know it wasn't an easy month.
Look forward to catching up soon.Total debt: 1 January 2007 £[strike]49,387.79[/strike] 1 January 2012 £[STRIKE]19,312.85[/STRIKE] 1 August 2012 £11,517.620
