That's true actually Hypno, thanks. I hadn't thought about the fact that once the kids are not 'kids' any more I will be able to work full time, and there are good chances of promotion in my line of work if I can do more hours. And also, I suppose at some point they will leave home (nooooooo........:() so we will be able to downsize again.

Hi hun - well done you for facing excel - I have no idea how to use it, even though I remember being taught loads of it in IT at school.... oh well. Glad it is sunny where you are too - it is lovely here and hopefully we have quite a positive week ahead of us so sunny weather = sunny mood (she says, frantically touching wood!)

Your mystery shops sound fab - can I ask what company you are with if you dont mind? I am looking into doing it myself when I have finished my college course x

Hi ATB, I do mystery shops for GFK and Grassroots. Sometimes I choose not to do any for ages because they can be quite time consuming but when I worked in the City it was great because I could fit them in easily in my lunch hour which helped me to earn money without eating into my day, and at the same time it stopped me spending :j

I go through phases with the mystery shopping. Obviously I am currently in one of my "yes I can be bothered" phases!!

I have put the figures in the spreadsheet, and as first thought it is not pretty. But, I now know what I am working with, and hopefully that will spur me on to get some extra money in somehow.

    Hi hun

thanks for that. I am really interested in it, only thing that puts me off is that I know with some companies you are effectively self-employed and have to sort your tax out - I prefer someone to do that for me!! :p I absolutely adore shopping (hence my massive overdraft), but since my LBM have noticed I dont miss it as much as I thought. Mystery shopping would be a great thing for me to try I think.

Have you thought about doing a little more matched betting to help you through May? xx PS sorry for hijacking your thread with my incessant questions!!

Hijack away! You are more than welcome!

I really need to get back into the matched betting. It sort of slipped after my holiday and then the laptop died, and then, and then, and.....and...!

But now that everything is up and running again I have no excuse not to do some. So I hereby declare that tomorrow I will get Zebra's list out and will open an account and deposit money with at least one new bookie this week.

Right, please feel free to kick me hard if there is no evidence of matched betting progress this week :o

Re tax and mystery shopping, GFK do the tax for you, but most of the others you have to do it yourself, but it really is quite easy to work out the tax, and if you do your tax return online, it is even easier!! The most difficult thing is putting away money to pay your tax bill. The danger is that you forget and then get a nasty shock, so be prepared!

Hello everyone.....just been catching up with the last three or four pages of your diary hypno.

Is there anything I can help with regarding Excel spreadsheet? I have my own set up so, if there is anything, just let me know.

Thanks LA, I have got a basic one up and running and have got all the figures in, but one thing I would like to do is to have the positive figures in blue and then the minus figures in red, not that I want to see loads of red but maybe I won't miss something important if it is screaming at me in a  sort of way!

So, if you can help me with colour, that would be great!

    Sure thing.

If you want to see negative figures, just right hand mouse click on the 'targt cell' (or cells) and then choose "Format Cells" from the pop up menu.

Then from the list on the left hand side choose the "Number" option.

THEN look to the right hand side and under the negative numbers field/area you will see an example number with a minus symbol and in red.

    Hope that helps.

    LA xx

Crikey Hypno!! You've been busy! :) Good luck with the excel- I've got a basic one that adds it all and then subtracts etc (so I can find out profit for ebay items after fees & postage for example) but my spending one is very basic. Need to update that one but it takes serious attention - not me on a Sunday night :)

Thanks LA! I have just done a sample cell and it is now a bright red beacon of motivation!!

Sea, it has taken me absolutely bloody hours!! OH is at work and there is nothing on the telly so I thought I would have a go. Didn't expect it to take so long but hopefully now I have done one, I will be more likely to do another one.

I assume that for next month I can copy the crib over without having to start again?
