Negative pregnancy tests but still not sure

It's normal for your menstrual cycle to change after pregnancy. When periods resume after birth they can be:
irregular where before they were regular
regular where before they were irregular
heavier
lighter
more uncomfortable
or they might just stay the same as before
It's to do with all huge hormone changes you've gone through and your body finding it's new "normal". So I wouldn't read too much into the fact you've been late for a few months.
I'm sorry to say that if you're still having periods (not just spotting) and multiple pregnancy tests came back negative, I would imagine that its very unlikely you're pregnant.
Psychology is a very powerful thing, sometimes if you want to be pregnant and to have a baby so much it can result in the physical manifestations of pregnancy. Have you heard of a hysterical pregnancy?
In any case your stomach should not be distended in the way you describe without a reason, so pop along to the GP and tell him what you've told us.0 -
When you say your period is 'late' - its only late as you consider your cycle to be every 28 days. - which it hasnt been for a year now so thats not really true anymore.
Not many women have 100% perfect cycles. Chances are your periods arent 'late' at all, you are just ovulating at slightly different times each month, and therefore your period is coming at different times. As women can often ovulate at different times each month, but their luteal phase - bit between ovulation and period, tends to be consistant.
If you know when you are ovulating then you would be able to work out when your period is due.
So having it come 2-3 days different each month or even a week, is totally normal.
However if your stomach seem weird you should see a doctor. It could be something totally unrelated to pregnancy.0 -
I had really heavy periods before my first child, they calmed down a bit after childbirth.
I did convince myself that I was pregnant at one point, despite regular periods. Even made DH come to the doctor with me (he knew I wasn't). Some family members had died and I think it was a reaction to that. Dr couldn't feel anything, but he did send me for a scan, bless him, I guess he thought it may well be worth checking things out in that area.
Least I'm not the only one....lolGo to your GP, or if you don't want to see the GP make an appointment with the practice nurse. Don't go in saying you think your pregnant but all the tests are negative, just explain all your symptoms and see what they say.
You can always mention about pregnancy after they've said what they think based on just the symptoms you describe.
We need to see a doctor in our clinic and then they let you see the nurse ...SqueekyMouse wrote: »It's normal for your menstrual cycle to change after pregnancy. When periods resume after birth they can be:

Too Much Information Alert.....My periods would normally be so heavy and even after I had my baby they came back to normal. I would have went through a tampon in an hour. Now a tampon can do me all day and still not have much on it...Could this be spotting ?;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)0 -

Depends how much you want to know and how obsessive you want to be! - you can take your temperature each day, pee on ovulation sticks or look at your cervical mucus.
Can you tell I just came from the TTC board :rotfl:
But if youre not worried about it too much, then you could simply estimate that your period will come every 28-35ish days, and only think about being pg if it goes any longer than that?0 -

I lurked on the TTC board for ages when we were trying for our first, and spent some time on the miscarriage support one too after having an angel.
I will be obsessive....lol....back to the TTC board from me...
Hope you get you bfp soon....xx;)I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY;)0 -
I once had 5 negative pregnancy tests. She's now 9. I'd been pregnant before so I recognised the symptoms regardless of what a stick said. I went to my GP who did a blood test to confirm the pregnancy. I suggest you go to yours.0

Well a tampon would last me all day too and wouldn't be too horrendous in the evening, my periods have always been fairly light. So I wouldn't describe that as spotting. I think you should forget about how your periods used to be pre-baby and work out what is your new normal for now.
What I meant by the spotting comment was the sort of break-through bleeding that can occur during a pregnancy which I really don't think this is by the sounds of it
I can feel from your posts that you would really love to have another baby and would love for it to be a simple and stress-free journey. I really do hope you are able to have this, but at the moment I do think that your feelings might be effecting you in a physical way.
All the very best and some virtual hugs!
ETA: re-read your post and now I understand where you're coming from regarding your periods going back to pre-pregnacy-like just after the birth and then have more recently become lighter. I can understand why you'd think you could possibly be pregnant and they might be spotting. Please bear in mind that the hormonal changes take a very long time to settle down and it could just be as I said above - your body settling down to its new normal. But something makes me think you'll keep on wondering about this until a doctor proves it one way or another - get to that GP and explain your symptoms AND how you feel, what you want etc0 -

at how many weeks was this though ? Its incredibly rare to get a false negative - test too early/not with FMU/read the test incorrectly
I dont mean to be negative but i get the impression this is just the sort of false hope the OP is searching forBow Ties ARE cool "Just because you are offended, doesnt mean you are right" Ricky Gervais0 -
OP, I'm slightly confused.
As you wondering if your periods have become lighter because you think you may be several months pregnant? But have continually been getting negative tests?
I'm just trying to understand exactly what it is you are asking14th October 201020th October 20113rd December 20130
