I am the fleet manager for a large organisation, over 600 vehicles. Everyone of the vehicles is on the MID, it is a legal requirement. Our policy states for any vehicle owned, hired or in our care, custody or control.
We update the MID weekly.
Only time we have had a vehicle not appearing on the MID was when someone put in the wrong registration number0 -

Thanks, reading in the direct.gov site, it seems to suggest individual car details should be registered.
Interestingly, my fuel card was issued with the wrong reg no (one letter out). I pointed this out to the fleet manager 5 weeks ago and hasnt issued a new card or asked me to do anything different.
Maybe as you say, if the fuel card had the wrong reg, maybe the mid was updated with the wrong wren as well.0 -

Remember its a company car if the op ask their company if they are insured before they next drive it and are told yes. They would not get prosecuted.0 -
A few years ago our fleet of 150 mix use vehicles (18t/7.5t/Vans/Cars etc) never appeared on MID despite me checking and badgering the Insurer. The vast majority of the vehicles were in use 7 days and driven high mileages on primary routes so they must have pinged the ANPR systems regularly. Yet to my knowledge, no-one ever got pulled. Even when I drove past a traffic car with ANPR in my company car, I'd check AskMID when I got home and it was listed as having no insurance. The man without a signature.0

Having you tried searching Ask Mid for the wrong reg and seeing if that is on there? Go to https://www.hpicheck.com and put the reg in and make sure the make/model is the same though as a car could already have that registration but be a different make/model. (The hpi site to just check the vehilce make/model/engine size is free so dont worry when it says you need to pay for a report etc)0 -

Could it have anything to do with if the vehicle shows up as taxed but not insured, the police assume its a company vehicle and not bother stopping the vehicle to be checked. Especially if the vehicle is less than 3 years old?
Maybe they only stop if there are other factors to be suspicious about such as age of vehicle, if it looks dodgy or being driven in a suspicious way etc etc0 -
It is a new car and must have been insured before it could be taxed.
You must know where the car was purchased, it will be on the service book. You could contact them and ask.
I would phone company and ask for a copy of the insurance certificate.
If you know who their insurers are you could phone them too."A nation's greatness is measured by how it treats its weakest members." ~ Mahatma Gandhi

My previous comment was wrong.
MID has apparently been compulsory since some time in 2010. It is the UK's way of complying with an EC Directive.
However, it is not the driver's responsibility to ensure that a company vehicle is on the database..
(In fact, it isn't for the driver of a private vehicle either).British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0
