Can someone help please? Another slow pc!

Options
Hi all, before I start, I have to admit I am totally technophobic, so please bear with me if I appear really thick with any advice given!

I was going to list all the programmes on my pc if thats ok, and see if you knowledgeable technie guys could please tell me what I can and cannot remove from my pc to make it quicker.

We have just had Talk Talk broadband put in and I want the pc to be as good as it can be. I know there is a load of junk on it, but I just don't know what I can or cannot remove.

I've followed the steps in a couple of the posts I've seen re speeding up a slow pc. It has helped, but it is still very slow.

I've put all my photos on a USB stick and have uploaded them to Flickr and will do the same with my documents, probably put them in Google docs or something like that.

We really use the pc most for the internet, so really want to speed up start up times and give it a good cleanse, but I'm scared to mess around too much as I really don't know what I'm doing!

Do I need to post one of those hijack threads thingys? Sorry I have no idea how to do any of it, so any help for this real technophobe would be very greatly appreciated!

Please be gentle with me! :rotfl:

Download DDS from the link below and save it to your desktop:

    Link

After you've downloaded it and saved it to your desktop:
    • Double click DDS to run it.
    • When it's finished, DDS will open two logs:
    1. DDS.txt
    2. Attach.txt
Save both reports to your desktop.

Copy & paste the contents of just DDS.txt for now and post it here (you may need to split the log over separate posts)

    Yes, that right.

Post the contents of attach.txt now.

There is a couple of startups/services you could disable but really you should look at upgrading the RAM. 1GB leaves Vista a little under-gunned to be honest

Ok thanks. Where do I find attach.txt??

What can I disable and how can I do it please?

Also is there any programmes I can get rid of, or do I need to put a list of all of them on?

    Thanks for your help!

Right think I've done it - thanks for your patience!

The only thing is, when I've copied and pasted it in this thread, it keeps going oin about security, is it safe to post? I won't get some clever techno person hijacking my pc will I?

Yes it's safe to post. You'll notice it says "unless requested" dont post it. It's just that some forums like to have it zipped and attached - we don't have that facility here.
