No advice, but I used to have issues with public toilets. I used to get dirty looks for taking my autistic son into the ladies or the disabled toilets.

Thankfully now he 'functions' enough to go in alone.

I suggest you telephone the store and ask for the name of the store manager

Failing that just address your letter to The Manager

Focus on how shocked/surprised you were as M&S has such a good reputation for customer service (which they do) and hence they were your first choice for the suit for this important occasion;)

Am fairly sure this will be dealt with promptly and to your satisfaction.
Because, of course, if it isn't you can
    (a) go to Head Office (Baker Street, London, from memory) and
    (b) go to the press

Hope he has a lovely prom. My DD and DS both have proms this year; a special time.

    I disagree.

Big company. Straight to the Jugular.

I disagree, you are just adding another layer to complicate things. The manager or supervisor is there on the ground and can make a straightforward decision.

If that was unsatisfactory then you can introduce the complication of ' going higher '

I'm with you on that strategy.

It seems that the assisstant got it wrong - I appreciate that for the OP it was upsetting, but nobody was hurt and no damage was done. This should be dealt with locally to enable the manager to advise staff on how to deal with a similar situation in the future.

I also agree however that if you feel the response is not satisfactory, then yes, consider moving further up the chain of command.

I'd go to the store manager first I think - in writing.

Hope son enjoys his prom :)
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

    How ridiculous.

The changing rooms at M&S outlet at Lakeside are unisex.Myself and the other half regularly go into the same cubicle together and no one objects.

I would also be asking them why some of their stores have unisex changing rooms and others do not.

I know some leisure centres that have part unisex changing rooms-family- and they found people were taking in drills and drilling holes in the partition to spy through..! Yuk.
Poor show from M & s ,as this issue seems (from her own account) to have been brought up before, without resolve with the Manager. So for this reason I would agree with Withabix about going to the top .

I would be asking in writing to HO why the staff dont appear to have been trained in what to do.That is a management failure.

    My tuppence worth...
    1. A large shop like M&S should have the correct facilities.
    2. If you think the SA is wrong, (politely) ask to see a manager. The SA may be unaware of the requirements, etc., so just get somebody there who can help.
