Mine don't seem to be growing this year either, whilst the tomato plants (both are in the greenhouse) are rocketing..last year a solitary cucumber in aneglected and forgotten about pot on the patio did really well...what am I doing wrong?M.A.C.A.W member number 39

I lost 2 early ones, but have 6 plants doing well in the greenhouse and another 2 in a conservatory. I always start mine in the hosue as it's warmer and didn't plant them out until they were about 2 ft tall. Have some fruits about a inch or so long appearing. Just waiting for the red spider mite to attack them like every year so far I've planted them!0

I did seed in February, all dead by April. I did another lot, all dead by may. I got some plants from the garden centre, about half of them managed to make it past 4 leaves.
Its rubbish, never had such a terrible year for cucumbers.**** I hereby relieve MSE of all legal responsibility for my post and assume personal responsible for all posts. If any Parking Pirates have a problem with my post then contact me for my solicitors address.*****0 -
Last summer was a bad year for cucumbers as it was cold and wet - could be due to those conditions! Let's hope it decides to warm up soon... not holding my breath!0

Temperature seems to be the key. I germinate mine at 20deg C and !!!!! out at 7 days max. To leave them longer and they will become fragile and the percentage of failures increases the longer you wait. Keep the moist but only use tepid water for the first week or two. Good light is essential but don't let them get sunburned.
Don't allow the night time temp to go below 10deg C and don't drown them.
Forgot to mention that I sow them vertically and don't cover with too much compost.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
just wondering about your cucumbers. I managed to keep two outdoor burpless, growing and have just eaten the first and very tasty, cucumber. There are more in formation and I gave them a bit of tomato feed and am trying to get the watering right as they are thirsty plants. Fingers crossed as they are my biggest challenge0
