That makes sense thankyou! Its never worked in that room since we bought it and its only months old. We got it from a wee local shop we always deal with and we'll just take it back for checking. If they cant find a fault then I might try setting up a new connection but I'm not good at that stuff and know it will end in tears lol - probly the husbands
TY! xx
From what you've said it's not working in any room. It could be as simple as what Yorksboy has pointed out. Why not set the big PC up in a room where you do get good wireless on a laptop and try it there? My guess is you'll get the same results.
The shop however should be able to establish what is wrong very quickly and sort it out. It doesn't sound like a repair job to me though - just settings.0 -
First steps:
Check which socket the ethernet cable is plugged into on the router, then look to the front of the router and check that the corresponding LED is alight.
Also check for a LED on the socket that ethernet plugs into on the PC (or laptop)
Look in the notification area (bottom right, near clock) for an icon of a monitor with a red X in the corner. If present, hover mouse over it, and see if a message pops up.
Check in Network and Sharing Center that the adapter is enabled. How do I add a signature?0 -
The pc works perfectly in the livingroom Glynn, where the router is. But that's the only place it works. If it was a settings prob then would it do that?
What is the adapter? I dont understand that bit. OH says lights on router were all on, yes.
In the bottom right hand corner it says connected to our network but only one green tick is lit up.0 -

It sounds to me as if the wireless settings are wrong. I'm very reluctant to get too technical because you're obviously a novice (no offence intended). If you have the shop option then I really would advise you to bring it there. If there's a problem with the wireless settings it'll appear in the shop too.0 -
Hang on.....
How many ethernet cables are plugged into the router?
How many LED's are on, on the front of the router - specifically those numbered 1-4?How do I add a signature?0 -

I disagree, I don't believe the wireless settings are wrong because, as the OP stated, the PC connects OK via wireless if the PC is near the router. How do I add a signature?0 -
Only the one cable was plugged in and the light was on, OH says all the lights were on. I think the shop is the way to go though, thanks everybody
But the odd thing is that my laptop is doing exactly the same thing. If I walk around with it it behaves the same way although not as drastically and I still get online. I think maybe we need to demolish the house...:)

You're only giving me part of the information I asked for.
The ethernet cable will be plugged into a socket numbered 1,2,3 or 4. On the front of the router are a number of LEDs including some numbered 1-2-3 and 4. With the ethernet cable plugged into socket 1, LED 1 should be on. Please confirm this is correct. How do I add a signature?0 -

It could be as simple as having the wrong connection enabled. I doubt it's that but if OP and hubby have no tech knowledge and the instructions here are confusing for them it wouldn't be a big thing for them to bring it back to the shop and have it sorted out there, which no doubt will only take minutes.0 -
Ok husband says yes the light went on when he plugged the cable into socket no. 1. I will take it back mon morning and see what they say anyway.0
