Cannot fix this problem!

Router is in livingroom and big (wireless) pc in back room isn't getting a signal. Bought homeplugs fr Amazon and they made no difference. Got ethernet patch cable from Amazon, just tried it and that makes no difference either!! Why is that ? I carried the laptop through there and the signal on it drops dramatically in that back room, but the ethernet cable didnt make a dfference to the laptop either. We are lost !
Can anybody explain this, or do we have to sell this big pc that we paid a bloody fortune for just a few months ago :(

Forgive me but are you saying that when you connect the big PC by cable that it doesn't receive internet signal?

which router, does it have a visible aerial?

usb adapter, or pci wireless card

have you checked for signal channel interference using inssider?

Are you connecting the ethernet cable from the back of the pc direct to the router, are the ethernet drivers installed?

Been an ongoing problem since we got it, it only works in the livingroom. It doesnt make any difference when we put the ethernet cable on, no.
Router is a Plusnet Wireless and yes its got an aerial.

Thats what it sounds like to me, GlynD, which is weird, wireless should be able to go through a solid brick wall, unless there is something in the wall to stop it causing interference, however using a ethernet lead upto 100metres the internet should work perfectly.

Yes it should make a huge difference using the cable -unless this cable is faulty? But the Home Plugs didnt make a difference either.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
This might sound a bit obvious - but make sure that the network adaptor is enabled and check the settings.

When connecting the cable you should be getting the full benefit of your internet connection. It's difficult to ascertain exactly what is wrong when I'm not sat there but I would be looking at some sort of fault in the internet connection on the big PC. The first things I would do would be to:

    1. Check with another ethernet cable. If the result is the same then;
    2. Use the windows wizard to set up another ethernet/internet connection.

If it's still not working after that then I'd be drifting towards a fault in the ethernet card but perhaps that could be corrupt drivers?

One thing is for sure: with that hard cable connected the big PC should be motoring along at a rate of knots.

I don't think the fault lies with the signal. It lies within the setup of the big PC.

That makes sense thankyou! Its never worked in that room since we bought it and its only months old. We got it from a wee local shop we always deal with and we'll just take it back for checking. If they cant find a fault then I might try setting up a new connection but I'm not good at that stuff and know it will end in tears lol - probly the husbands :) TY! xx
