I once worked ...strange but true fact number 1 at a pie factory in the S.Wales area and was in charge :) of pouring the jelly from a large stainless steel bucket into the pork pie machine , after 3 weeks or less I turned veggie ...hell of a place .

yuck.. it's disgusting when you think of some of the things that go into so called "meat" products.
But as neosi said, it's worth watching through to the end, I'm also really looking forward to next week.

I watched a prog once called "cook it, kill it, eat it" and it sounds as horrendous as it was. I won't be macabre about it as i know it may upset some people but it showed what you can imagine. In a strange way, I'm glad i watched it. It may not be nice to think about but those packets of chicken breast/beef burgers/sausages that are on the shelf dont just appear like that. If you are a meat eater (which i am btw) then you cannot bury your head in the sand regarding what you eat. But what you can do is buy decent quality meat knowing that it had a good life.

Oooh, hand me a ladder so I can get off that soapbox..
    Think I need happy's sofa picture .....

Reminds me of when I was a trainee for a major food manufacturer and did a placement at a pie factory. During my induction I was told about a member of the nightshift who was sacked for keeping himself amused by sha**ing the huge blocks of lard that were used in the pies :eek::eek::eek:

    Evening guys :D

Alan wasn't good during the night and got very little sleep, so he hasn't been out at all today, and only got up for late brunch and to see my sister for half hour when we got back from seeing Mam :( He has that pain across his middle, which comes and goes, and we will get checked as soon as we are home. So I just went up to my brother's to chat to him for an hour or so and then took my sister down to see Mam, who has a touch of the runs at the moment and is quite tired and quiet, but otherwise ok

We are going to try to get up early tomorrow to drive home. Hopefully Alan will let me do the driving so he doesn't get even more tired. We will pick up the dogs from the kennels when we get back and then have a relaxing evening and sleep in our own bed :D The mattress which should have come before we came up here should be there, taken in by a neighbour, but will leave that to sort out the next morning

Mind you, I am looking forward to getting home where I am more able to go wombling and [STRIKE]buying[/STRIKE] getting things at Tossco :p

Magicowen - glad the hearing went ok, at least the process has started properly now :D

Nikki and the others who got the free Carling - well done - cheers

The hall looked delightful Leenie

Thanks MMW for the link for the whisky comp - £3 off is very greatfully received   and so glad you managed to drive today which means you can see the benefit already

QPR - loving the special offer on freezing at the hospital :rotfl:

Right, a little packing and then more catching up for me :p

The worst thing was tescos attitude to selling british made meat balls in which the calfs would have a nice life... although they are happy to sell the german meat kept in poorer conditions? As Jimmy said, if they didnt make money on it, why would they sell it? The woman answering questions didn't have a clue about any of the welfare guidelines in this country or anything about the meat they are selling..shocking. Makes me proud to be part of this forum when you see how they treat suppliers/animals. x

Right, I'm off now. Think I might have left a cat hiding among the pigeons for when all the Croc fanciers see that quote, so I might stay in hiding for a while! Night night all.

I agree about Crocs so will link arms with you and we can fight it out together. If I'm not mistaken, Miss Laid is also in our "no-croc gang"
