  • Step son to be hates peppers, courgettes and aubergines. but he loves meatballs.

I do a nice hm meatballs with a ratatouie sauce.

Whilst H2B and I enjoy ours with lumps, I blend down SS2B's and tell him I have made him a special sauce to go with his. I just add a little ketchup when blending!!
It's nice to be nutty but's more important to be nice

I used to go out with someone whose idea of a chinese meal was Sweet and Sour Chicken Balls and chips, without the Sweet and Sour sauce and was totally non-plussed when I pointed out the obvious!

He was a nightmare food wise, - sooooo glad my DH is a fantastic eater, not too keen on root veggies (but eats carrots now) (oh, and swede if mashed into potato with carrots).

And as for the kids, I give them LOADS of veggies and will happily bribe them with dessert if they eat some if not all! There's no room for faddy eaters in our house...eat it or starve......!

P.S. npsmama - spill the beans - what happened?

My oh "doesn't eat" mushrooms, courgettes and a few other things... well most of the time I chop it so finely he can't see it and happily scoffs it... Oh Lentils... He REFUSES to eat lentils... shame I put it in nearly everthing with mince isn't it? :) he hasn't noticed yet - apart from to comment that when HE does bolgnaise it's not as nice as mine, what do I do different... DUH!!!

I don't blame him though... His mothers cooking is attrocious! But she was a nurse and a single paretn with 2 kids when he grew up and she never had time to cook for them properly so veg was over cooked, and goodness knows what she did to the meat!

Only thing I won't eat is fish - got a fishbone stuck in my throat as a child and I heave at the thought of fish still... can eat tinned tuna though :)

I hate to go all serious but aubergines (though I find them soooooo delicious myself) are actually not as harmless as you might think as they are a member of the nightshade family.

My father developed a tolerance allergy to aubergine (ie He ate tons of them over period of years and then suddenly went into shock after eating them, heart palpitations, problems breathing, the works.)
  • Going against the tide of public opinion, I would make the casserole and cook the aubergine seperately, then add the aubergine for whoever wants it.

I think it's wrong to treat your husband like a child and mislead him over what he's eating. I think it would show that you care if you offer him a bite of yours to see if he's still "sensitive" to it.
I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!

Most men don't even know what they are eating................unless we tell them.
I have spent years disguising veg in potato mash and beans and pulses (which NONE of my lot could possibly eat!) wizzed through the processor and added to various meals.
Unless you will make him/them truly ill, go for it and don't tell till at least a week later, otherwise he'll swear he 'felt dodgy' after but didn't like to mention it!
