I have received a letter from BPO today, in my maiden name saying I owe £115.53 to motormile finance, i never even heard of these, i have checked my credit file and there is nothing on there at all owing that amount. I noticed while i was looking at my credit report that BPO have done a credit search a few weeks ago. should I just ignore the letter?

    Hello,
I was wondering if anyone can reply to me regarding a BPO. The other day I have received message from some unknown mobile number stating that I should immediately contact BPO with reference number that they provided. Then today I have received a missed call from them. What shall I do, as I do not want to phone them having read that they like threaten people....

I also had this experience from bpopay. I had several texts asking me to call them and this morning I had a call during which the caller refused to say who or what this company was and asking for my personal info, including my address and date of birth which I refused to give and I terminated the call. Why is it that I am expected to give out personal info on a random call?.... I am guessing it is to do with a contract from Sky tv which I transferred into my tenants name. I was told this was all fine at the time (6 months ago) but Sky are so chaotic and difficult to deal with I am guessing there has been a mistake. I haven't received any paperwork from anybody neither do I owe Sky any money.

My elderly mother received a demand for £1K from these clowns, original company motorsmile who neither of us have heard of and she doesn't drive ! I get the impression they send out letters to any vaguely similar name in the hope of payment ??
I think ignoring them is best policy, never ever give phone numbers to them.

I'm sorry, I had to chuckle at that one !!!!

Motor mile Finance are a bottom end debt collection agency, who normally specialise in all types of delinquent debt, defaulted payday loans, etc etc.

If they have been unsuccessful obtaining payment, which in a lot of cases they are as they are so dammed difficult to deal with, the debt is sold on to other similar company's, in this case BPO.

And yes, if the details they have are sketchy, they will target similar sounding names in the hope of a "hit", so if you know its not you they are after, and they make a formal demand in writing, then you should respond with the provit letter, if they just try to call or text, that can be ignored until something in writing appears.

Hi Lowell withdrew from a court case as chasing a bought debt i dont owe and have a zero balance
As i counter-claimed them for there harassing letter the judge ordered them to carry out their business in a reputable manner yet 8 months later they have started again
I would appreciate any support or cases to take to watchdog and have these rogues exposed:T

Had call from these clowns today, from a debt that isn't even on my credit report, looked and can't find it anywhere. So I told them that I wouldn't do anything until they wrote to me. In meantime I have blocked their number

Looking at this thread I can see some incorrect advice on limitation periods for court actions.

In Scotland most civil claims expire after 5 years.

In England and Wales they expire after 6 years for most contracts. Contracts which are deeds (most are not) are limited to 12 years. Rent demands are limited to 6 years.

Generally the date is measured not from the start of the contract but from the date the breach occurred (ie. the date when the right to sue arose).

You might find that some of this relates to the thread originally being from more than 4 years ago and a lot of things have moved on since then.
