Help - Need info on wireless router!!!!

Options
Story is.........

Have just joined Sky Broadband and am trying to get on board.
On dial up at moment with Telewest (VM). However have been told that I need a wireless router to start up broadband.

Sky says this will cost me £28.50 including postage.

Is this ok?

  • Sounds like a good deal to me.

Have you got the network card fior your laptop?
  • Get onto Ebay and get one, plenty on there and easy to use.

SKY have embedded the software on their router(firmware) so I would stick with it & at £28.50 it is a good deal!

Just a thought.... Thats ok and does sound like a good deal but you have to make sure you are going to stay with sky. netgear DG834GT comes with dongle and 4 ports for wired use which is great. Not cheap at £60 but it works and you get what you pay for.
Ive just shaved off over £30 a month. by switching to talktalk there deal is £21 broadband and 24/7 phone calls. My bill with bt was over £50 a month. So before you commit to sky make sure your guna stay with em !!

    stay on top !!!

    Thanks guys................. :grouphug:

I am really not so high tech minded (a bit slow)

The problem is my computer is located in a room where there was only a telewest phone line. Therefore my BT line is in other rooms.

However, the nice lady at Sky told me that I should check my computer first of all to see whether it is 'wireless enabled'? If I had one of these, then I would not need to buy the router. (I think it is a matter of just flicking the switch?)

    Where would I find this:huh:

I have a Dell Optiplex GX270  (dont ask)!!

As far as I know the Sky wireless router comes "free" as part of the package, are you sure they are not trying to sell you a USB wireless adaptor for £28 .

If so I'm sure you could pick one up a bit cheaper from somewhere like ebuyer
just make sure it does 802.11g
